Oh man, what an informative site! As a drummer growing up in Galveston, Texas, in the 60's, Cream just captivated us all and I listen to the music to this day. Though I have never been one to have heros, it would be just tremendous to, someday, meet Eric Clapton and tell him just how much of an impact he has had on my life. During the war in Vietnam there were many times when the Music of Cream and Derek and the Dominos singlehandedly kept many of my naval unit from falling over the edge into insanity. I think cream should not reunite, because it would take off all the shine, to see that they are just ordinary people, who gets older like everybody. Cream and obviously Eric in particular was what made me want to play Guitar. Since that time I have had a great career as a Pro. Guitarist playing with a variety of Bands over the years with varying degrees of success, including some years with one of the greatest Rock/soul/blues singer/writers ever to come out of Britain - Frankie Miller through whom I became friends with Lee Dixon - Erics' guitar tech.
I have met Eric on several occassions and always got on with him, he's a very friendly guy. We first met through Lee when I wrote and produced the Emmy shortlisted film Curves Contours & Bodyhorns, on the history of the Fender Strat. at the Hit Factory in New York. The next time was at Olympic studios in London when he bought a Curves Limited Edition Strat one of only forty made which I had Fender make to commemorate the film. Eric bought number 11 from me, the guitar was sold with the rest of the collection he sold at Christies' New York in aid of the Crossroads Centre.
In 1999, I was asked to form a band by a London Mgt. company to tour Britain and Europe with a musical appreciation of Cream. Initially, I declined, but over the next six months I was persuaded I could do it. The tour was started in Feb. 2000, the Band is called 'Cream'd' and was so successful that not only are we still touring, we are just finishing off the first Cream'd albumn - which I have to say is fantastic. I do not see the band as a tribute, like Eric was doing with Cream and the Bluesbreakers, and to a degree even lately I am simply playing the music I grew up on, music which was played by Musicians that had a profound effect on me and my evolution as a Musician. We are even mentioned by Chris Welch in his book. I have been in touch with you once before by e-mail, but I believe you could'nt open it. I hope you find this of interest, if you are please don't heritate in replying. Chris Welch played a couple of live tracks to Jack and to Pete Brown, Jack said it was "uncanny" how close we get to their sound, and Pete rang us at a Gig and wished us good luck. We have also had a review in Where's Eric with pics. Till next time good luck with the site - it's great, I'm all for flying the Cream banner as much as it possibly can be. People should remember, or made aware of the sheer brillience that was The Cream.

Amazing site. Intriuging information. I just drift back to when I was 13, and the magic returns. You had to be there. This band and those days were incredible. I started playing Drums in 1965. Saw Cream June 1968 Montreal, Canada. My Band the Milk performed Cream tunes every weekend my Jr. 1968 and Sr. 1969 years of high school, Plattsburgh, New York. In the summer of 1969 I saw Blind Faith at Oakland Arena, Califoria. Over the years my hobbie has been to go see as many bands live as possible. Ginger Baker is the Greatest Drummer of all time. Ginger inspired me to play Double bass drums. Cream will play together again. Remember Jeffrey said so.

Hope you're right Jeff, a Cream reunion for even one concert would be interesting. Would love to hear them do 'Born Under A Bad Song' or Crossroads. Saw them in Ottawa in April '68 and believe it or not it was just a 'tiresome concert'with improvising and a lot of noise. Never thought I would say this. I wish I'd been able to see them at the Winterland or Fillmore, it would probably have been a totally different experience. Could not believe it was the same band on 'Wheels of Fire' which is one my all time favourite albums. Rock ON.

In the late sixties I played in a bluesband. The Riverside Bluesband, so mentioned, because we lived in Arnhem, near the river Rhine. We played songs from The Stones, John Mayall, Cuby and the Blizzards, a Dutch group with Eelco Gelling (a superd guiterplayer. As a matter of fact I believe that Eelco belonged to the top, along with Eric Clapton and Peter Green) and of course songs from The Cream. There were 4 of us. A guitarplayer, a bassplayer, a drummer and me on vocals. We played in pubs, schools, bars, actually, we played wherever we could play. No earnings, long days, but we had fun, and the audience liked it. Our best songs were from The Cream: Politician, Sitting on top of the world, Sunshine of your love, Tale of brave Ulysses, White Room etc. You've pulled the best out of us. I think it was the best time of my life.
About a reunion. Please don't. We (I) have our memories, you have your's. Keep it that way. I don't mean that you couldn't do it again, I'm sure you can, but its a different age, a different atmosphere, another time. Your voices are lower, perhaps Ginger isn't that dynamic anymore (I'm ginger to), perhaps Slowhand isn't that "slow" anymore. Anyway, you never can make it as good as then. Nevertheless, you are creat musicians who should play together again, with new songs, new elan. You have made history, 30 years ago. I was about 16.

I keep hearing that Eric is living in a suburb of Columbus with his wife, who is from here. Is that true? I would love to see them play together again. I had tix for the 1968 show here but my g-friend got sick and I didn't get to go. I know a few people at music stores here and they said they have seen him. Great site! I just purchased the "Blind Faith" lp for 10 cents! It still had the lyric sheet inside! I had lost the lp years ago and came acoss it in a second hand store.I read your bio onEric Clapton in Blind Faith. I used to think that Pink Floyd was the greatest band in the world and that they are definitely god and creator and ruler of all, well yeah, I still do think that, but what i'm getting at is that Cream is definitely officially now the second best band in the universe. I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and saw Cream live at Winterland, circa 1978 (?) I remember them coming on stage to the British national anthem and there was an electric image of the union jack on the backdrop of the stage that must have been 60'long and over 40' high. The long extended solos of Ginger Baker were astonishing; I've never heard virtuoso drumming like that since. Eric Clapton was, well, Eric Clapton. C'mon guys, get back together and do it again!

Cream was a paradigm shift in musicianship for guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Guitar soloing raised to a fine art. The bass brought to the forefront as a lead instrument, the first time controlled vibrato appears in rock vocals, double kick drums and triplet rolls and rock drum solos which did not exist before. No band before or since has had all its musicians as actual paradigm shifters.

Only managed to see the band once (I was in a band myself at the time). It must have been around `67 when they appeared at the Beachcomber Club in Nottingham. Someone told me it was only their 2nd gig together? I remember Ginger was late, apparently coming up from London on the train, and I remember watching the roadies hammering in large blocks of wood into the stage to hold his bass drums in place! Eric was not happy with his new guitar and remonstrated with one of the crew about it - it sounded all right to me. Later I rubbed shoulders with 'God' at the bar - one of my 'claims to fame' and something I remember so vividly I can picture it now. The night was a hell of an experience and one I occasionally repeat (to anyone not too bored to listen). I would dearly love to see them again, but it will never happen again, and besides how could it ever be the same again. Let's face it, Cream were a one off.

Cream were the first band I really got into. I would like to thank my dear uncle, Mr Bernard L Stevenson for supplying me with the Polydor Compliation 1995 The Very Best of Cream. Mr Clapton continues to recieve much of the credit and this is right and proper but Messrs Bruce and Baker are equal. Cream would not be as great without all three of the best musicians of all time.

I have been waiting -- It's been talked about for ten+ years. Since the R N' R HALL OF FAME Induction; a Reunion of CREAM has been spoken about. Cream is one of the greatest rock bands of all time with few equals who gave rock & roll a good kick in the ass during the late 60's with their bluesy, ballsy sound ushering in the hard rock/heavy metal genre. I think Cream were idiots letting their rock egos get in the way which is why they broke up back in 68 because they would have been even more popular during the 70's in my opinion with the rise of Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath. I have been a dedicated Cream fan for a long time ever since the mid 70's while I would like to see Eric Clapton play more like he did during his Cream days which was explosive even though I don't think it's going to happen.

IT is said that Cream was underrated and they didn't get popularity that groups like Led Zeppelin got, and the is mainly because Led Zeppelin is just a better band! I don't believe Cream should do a reunion tour, it would do more damage than good.

Hey Jack!
I spent a year working out your bass lines to most of Cream's studio recordings (+ the classic live version of Crossroads), WHEW! I think I got them pretty accurate--it was hard trying to separate your bass from Ginger's kick & floor toms!

Don't know why I haven't found your site earlier, tho' I must admit, I don't surf a lot.
We actually finalised our lineup in about June 1999 and got a few gigs around Sydney in the first year. But so many agents/promoters are so conservative in this town despite an always appreciative audience. (Unplanned aliteration!)
Drummer got itchy feet and couldn't seem to replace him despite some very promising candidates. Nevertheless, gigs keep cropping up every now and then and our 'Ginger' will come to rehearsals (and perform) for a definite show.
26 January this year was a great outdoor day-gig with several hundred people in one of the hip-er parts of inner Sydney. Again, they loved us!
Well, how could they not? The excellent material and arrangements have already been done for us!

It's silly, but I feel I know you, after having worked out most of your bass lines and vocals, and after having performed them about 2 dozen times.
It seems to me that Pressed Rat & Warthog is about the breakup, yes? I got that theory from seeing a mid-1990s interview of you where you mention, "Eric was known as Captain Madman."
"...the bad Captain Madman had told them to stop..."
So it was Eric who closed down your "atonal apples", Ginger's "dogs' legs & feet" and his own "amplified heat"?? Was he being headhunted by the Beatles (I get that impression watching the Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus" video.)
Anyway man, as we say in Aus, 'You're a ledge!' (short for legend).
Thanks eternally for the great songs, recordings and performances. Just as Beethoven began the Romantic period in classical music, Cream began heavy metal in 1966!--and a more interesting, psychedelic, bluesy heavy metal than the 'plastic metal' bands {as we called them in the mid-1970s} of Kiss, Metallica, Def Leppard, etc, etc.

Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were the most talented part of Cream. As good as Clapton was, Bruce and Baker made the band. Plus Baker is the best drummer ever! Bruce is the best bass player ever!
