Two of my dearest and fondest concert memories were seeing you play with Cream and
West, Bruce and Laing in Chicago (my hometown). You really KICKED ASS! In my book, you are
and will always be the best bass player of all time. I wish you a speedy and painless
recovery. And when you're finally up and running, get your ass over here to Brazil and
play some BRUCE music.
All the best,

Jack --
Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
I have been a fan for quite some time. I have a vivid memory of being at a high school
friend's party, standing on the porch with a lot of noisy people, and finding myself drawn
to ignore them and listen to the music playing in the background. "What on Earth is
this?" I asked my friend. "It's phenomenal!" It was "I'm So
Glad," performed live on the Goodbye album.
From that day on, I was hooked (and saddened to realize that I had missed out on ever
seeing the band live). I particularly love the live Cream performances, "As You
Said," and "Theme for an Imaginary Western."
I did get a chance to see you perform a number of years back at SOB's in New York City.
That was a great gig.
Anyway, I hope you are back on your feet very soon and wish you many years of good
health.
Sincerely, Mike Zelenty

Dear Mr. Bruce,
Sorry to hear you have been so ill, and best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I had the pleasure of meeting you 20-some years ago when you were recording "I've
Always Wanted to Do This" at the House of Music in West Orange, NJ, and to hear you
perform that amazing music several times. You might possibly remember my husband (at that
time...so it goes) Julian Robertson, who assisted Stefan Galfas with the engineering.
Julian wishes you the best, too.
Please take care and feel better every day--and thanks for all the great music.

Jack, my friend, this is the first I've heard of your latest battle and I'm glad you're
winning this one too! Scared the b-jeeezus out of me though, when I got the press
release...
I hope we can meet up again real soon - I've got a new CD that needs your autograph for
starters! But I'm really looking forward to getting together and having a good laugh like
we do! Have I used my daily quota exclamation points already?
There are geeky toys we'll have to compare too - I've got my old Newton Messsage Pad
set up as a web server and put the press release on it along with a link to this site - http://ricardo.is-a-geek.net:8080 . I hope
laughing isn't painful at this stage!
I wish you the best, man!

Jack, you are among my top 5 fave bass players, and I am just a drummer so what do I
know? You are strong and a survivor just like Phil Lesh, put on this earth to keep the
creative edge and the complex art of singing and playing simultaneously while keeping the
posers guessing. It is a craft far few can master. I enjoy all your recordings, seen you a
number of times and hope you tour with Cobham again. Take it slow and recover completely.
Do not rush it. It will be well worth the wait.

Jack,
As a devout fan for over 35 years what can I say? The news of your illness hit me like
a ton of bricks. But fortunately, September 19th will now take on even added significance
for me aside from being my birthday. On that day I got an unexpected gift in the knowledge
that this successful transplant has been performed and that you will be around for many
years to come...and will continue to bless us all with the gift of your wonderful music.
More Jack Than God is wonderful and now, thank God, there will indeed be more Jack.
Have a speedy recovery my dear friend...seems there's a trip to Cuba that needs to be made

All the best.

Dear Jack I hadn't logged on to your website for a few weeks now - and was absolutely
poleaxed this evening to see first on Ceefax the news about your operation. Please bear
with me here: the weird coincidence is that just today at work I was explaining proudly to
a young colleague that I got to shake your hand at the City Hall in Newcastle last
November and receive your autograph - and felt so excited to have met you, but also
relieved that your autograph matched the 'blind' one I'd received about 5 years ago when
you played with Gary Moore and Gary Husband at the Cellar Club in South Shields. On that
occasion, my CD booklet from 'Cities of the Heart' was returned to me from your (closed)
dressing room with your signature added, but the rumour was that the guitar tech was
performing the signings!
I love your music, your writing, your voice and adore your playing - every time I
listen to or think about your music I feel my soul lift up.
I pray that you recover and are able to spread your enlightened message to more
generations.
You are a true inspiration
Love and thoughts

Dear Jack,
Just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery. I have enjoyed your music since the Cream
days. I too was diagnosed with cancer this past April. It started in the gallbladder and
spread to my liver. I have been on chemotherapy since May and am doing well. So I know, in
at least some way, what you have been going through. Let me share that my faith in God has
helped to see me through this ordeal. I know that I am being held in His hands. Let me
encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ and you will be secure for eternity. Once
again, thank you for all the happiness you have brought to me!

Sounds funny, maybe, but I was playing my copy of Fresh Cream today and flashing back
to the many times I have enjoyed "I'm So Glad" et al. Imagine my surprise to
learn - today - of your hardships and imminent recovery from a transplant! I'm so glad -
indeed! Speedy recovery, Jack. You are an important figure to many and know that our
thoughts are with you for a healthy future.

Dear Jack and family,
My thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. Your music has always meant so much to me.
I was so priveleged to speak with you outside the keswick theatre in PA in july,2002 about
your work w/"the Kipster" and w/vernon. And I'll always cherish a long
conversation I had w/Kip and his daughter after ur show @BB kings in nyc a year ago ,
especially about " Her Boyfriend Assesses His Value..." from the
"Desire.." album.& how we can't talk ---about.- Jack Bruce, but
"around" Jack Bruce....Kip just kept talking and talking and I was luving it
because YOU brought out our passion...His daughter told me later that that was Kip's way
of thanking me....anyway, God Bless you and your family and we'll always be in the SAFEST
PLACE!

Yesterday I found out about your operation. It was such a shock that I could not
respond at that time. Fortunately Baby (just loved the way you sang that phrase) you are
OK. Just a note to say how much I have enjoyed you and your music. Ive seen you
every time you have preformed in Houston, Texas since 1967 (about 6 times if I remember
correctly). I remember the last time I saw you, I took a friend with me who wasnt
familiar with your solo career but he remembered Cream. After the 1st minute of your 1st
song he turned to me and said, WOW and that went on for the next 2 hours. Love
your new album. You have your family around you for support, all your loyal friends
praying for you and with the grace of God; you will be back as strong as ever.

Dear Jack,
I have been listening to your latest record over the past few weeks and it has really
got inside of me. It is an excellent companion to "Shadows" and it contains all
the classic ingredients I would expect in one of your albums: The inspired poetry of Pete
and of Kip; the marvellous contributions of all the assembled musicians; and above all
else your own impassioned playing and singing.
I really believe it contains songs which can already, and rightly be claimed as
classics alongside those many, many jewels from your past career...."So They Invented
Race"; "Kelly's Blues"; "Ricin.." and "Lost In The
City"... (and many others) right up there with the likes of "Jet Set
Jewel"; "White Room"; "Theme For An Imaginary Western";
"November Song" and "Dark Heart" and far, far too many other songs to
list here.
Whilst I have been listening to it again today, I decide to check out the website. I
could not believe what I see. Whilst I am enjoying the end result of such creative
music-making...it's own author is only just returning back to health after this dreadful
illness....
Well thank God for that. Indeed we must - for I don't think any of us - your fans and
admirers - could imagine a world without the music of Jack Bruce continuing to arrive and
enrich our lives. I have been listening to your music for so long now that I really can't
remember it not featuring in my musical experience.
To think you went so close to the edge is horrifying. God can wait a lot longer before
claiming such talent. We need you here to keep amazing us with your passion and soul. We
need...well...More Jack...Than God does (if you will forgive the pun).
So please continue to recover - get well and get strong - and then continue to do what
you, and we all love best...making great music. We all know that the "Best Is Still
To Come"....
And I look forward to so much more of it in the future.
Regards to you and your family,
Howard

Well Jack, I went on your website to see how things were going with the new album. Boy,
did I get a surprise! I'm So Glad you have a new liver and are making a recovery. Your
music has inspired me since I was a boy, and at 47, it still does! Take your time, get
strong, and get back to NYC as soon as you can. I'll be the nut in the front row at B.B

Jack,
So thrilled to hear your recovery is coming along: I can only hope that reading the
messages of 'get-well-soon'ism in this on-line guest book lifts your spirits, and enables
your speedy healing process.
I have been a fan since the days of 'that' band in the late sixties, and have enjoyed
everything since, particularly the power trios, (WBL, BLT, BBM).
This forum is a great way for us to direct some of this positive energy back to you.
Feel it. Let it flow through you; slowly at first, building to a fever pitch.
Peace under the oaks...
Kevin

Hello Jack,
Hope you are doing better. I just heard about your illness today.
I greatly enjoy your CDs "Harmony Row" and "Songs For A Taylor"--I
hope that someday they both will come out on SACD or DVD-Audio, so the world can hear your
music in the best possible fidelity.
Again, best wishes for a full recovery. David Crosby has shown what you can do with a
new lease on life.

Dear Jack, I just found out about your recent surgery this morning and I had to write
and wish you a healthy and much-deserved recovery. As a 45 year old musician who has been
listening to your music since I was 11 I've always regarded you as one of my teachers. I
play drums, bass and keyboards and studied drums with your old bandmate Ginger Baker in
California in 1991 (see if he remembers!). Your bass playing, songwriting and great vocals
have always simply amazed me and when I learned of your illness I just couldn't let the
day go by without wishing you well. I hope you're around for a long, long time making more
great music. All the very best, Michael A. Adashefski

Dear Jack, My heartfelt congratulations to you, on your successful operation, and my
sincere wishes for your complete recovery! I am so glad things have turned out so well for
you! Your music and work have meant so much to me over the years! I first discovered, you
as did many Americans, back in 1967 with Cream. I saw Cream twice, once on March 29, 1968
at Hunter College in New York City, where the group's performance was absolutely
exceptional (it's quality to me sounded like the Wheels of Fire live sides!). I saw Cream
a second time in November at Madison Square Garden at your farewell concert. In 1993 or 94
I saw you again in Manhattan, when you were touring with the guitarist Blues Seresina and
had a great night as well. As I began getting into jazz, I found your "Things We
Like" album in mid '71 - what a scorcher - I still like this record one very much. I
bought Escalator Over the Hill when it came out and don't see how Carla Bley could have
chosen anyone else for the part! I also enjoyed your contributions on the first two Golden
Palominos albums, and have A Queston of Time (great music - hope there's more from this
session which will come out somt time), and Shadows in the Air which is just sublime! I
just picked up your newly released Live in 1975 at the Manchester Free Trade Hall - this
one I bought last week through the U.S. "Collectors Choice" mail order catalog.
I have been too busy with the usual day to day routines of work, etc. but each time I pass
by my stack of new CD's I look at it with anticipation. Just found at this site about your
new album "More Jack Than God" so I'll be picking this one up shortly as well!
Again, my best wishes to you, and hopes for a healthy and speedy recovery, which will
allow you to be able to get back into doing what you enjoy which is composing and playing
music. When you do, I for one will be listening! Sincerely, Ed Fenning New York

Cream were the first group I thought were really good. I saw Lifetime in a small club
in Belsize Park, but only by standing on the backs of a couple of chairs, glued to the
wall. What a band, and what a gig. Then there was Crystal Palace, with Mick Taylor, and
Carla Bley's keyboards adding to the humor of the lyrics. A year or two later, a theater
in Victoria where we had to evacuate for a while due to a bomb threat. I remember the bass
guitarist making sure the sound engineer was getting out, before he left the stage
himself.
And so on.
But I also saw Ray Brown when he was over 70, his playing exquisite, flawless as ever.
So it's great to know you're going to be around another 10 or 15 years to keep great bass
playing alive and kicking. Best wishes for a very happy and healthy time.

Dear Jack: You have meant a great deal to me for many years. It is so wonderful that
someone has donated a liver to you so that you can continue to live the full life that you
live.You must be very grateful.
You are such an inspiration to me with the excellent and innovative music that you have
composed, performed and recorded. The gig you played at the El Mo in Toronto in '88 is
without a doubt the greatest live show I have seen. Your new album is yet again of the
highest quality. I hope that your health will continue to improve and provide you with
many more years of happiness and music. Best wishes from one of your keenest fans(I have
quite an extensive music library devoted to you). Sincerely, John

Dear Jack, I have been a fan for many years (about 35)- had the pleasure of meeting you
a couple of times after gigs, but without going into a lot of detail, I would just like to
say that you have provided myself and the rest of the world with some of the best rock and
blues, songwriting, singing, performing, etc. and I have always felt your solo work
deserved much more attention from the public compared to so many other 'lesser' artists.
You have rocked me to the bones, and at times brought me to tears with your music. Soul to
soul your music travels. Being a registered nurse, I know what you went through both
physically and mentally- you must be one hell of a fighter! I hope the worst is behind you
now. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Best wishes always, Bob Clayton

Dear Jack: As a long-time fan (about 35 years now) I was shocked and relieved to hear
the news regarding your illness and subsequent recovery. One of my most memorable moments
was meeting you for the first time- you were a complete gentleman, a true class act after
a gig in February 1990 at a small club on a magical snowy night in Philadelphia. That was
about 18 years after the first time I saw you with West, Bruce & Laing at the
Philadelphia Spectrum. Your music is the rare kind that at times rocks you to the bones
and can also move one to tears. Soul to soul your music moves once it enters the ears. As
a registered nurse I have some idea of the hell you went through- you gotta be tough as
nails to survive what you have. I sincerely hope the worst is behind you now. You and your
family are in my thoughts and prayers- best wishes for continued recovery and success. Bob

I'm likely to be the millionth person to express my wishes, but here goes...
Jack, as a bass player, your work has always been an inspiration to me.
Paul McCartney originally made me to want to play bass--I cheerfully admit that when I
was young I liked to pretend I was Paul. I even wanted to play bass left-handed (I'm
right-handed).
Then, when I was 15, I first heard the music of Cream.
It was the first time that I really *heard* how the bass guitar could be an up-front,
aggressive, and central component of music, while still fulfilling it's primary function.
Certainly, I'd heard that kind of stuff before--but it wasn't until I heard Cream that I
*noticed*.
The first song I learned to play on the bass was "Sunshine Of Your Love."
Your work gave me a direction of departure, which inspired me to learn, and to excel at
the instrument--which is pretty damn good for someone I've never met nor spoken a word to.
The only thing that's changed through the years since first hearing your music is that
other musicians have joined the ranks of those who inspire me, though they've only added
to, and not replaced the influence you've had on my playing. Some, like Geddy Lee of Rush,
were themselves inspired by your playing at the same age I was when I first heard your
music.
Let me offer my most heartfelt wishes to you for a speedy recovery, and for many years
yet to come of health and music.
That is, after all, the fate of those of us who have discovered we're musicians.
...oh, and I'm STILL looking for an EB-3. ;)

I'm back again because there's stuff I forgot to say. First, I saw you in LA in the
early 80's with Clem Clemson, Billy Cobham and Davis Sancious. It was exciting and
unforgettable. In the early 90's a friend and I went to see you at a club in Bayshore,
Long Island. We got there early and we walked into an empty room. You were on stage
singing "Deserted Cities Of The Heart". I thought to myself where's all the
fans? I felt sad so when you finished the song I clapped. I couldn't believe one of my
musical heroes was standing just a few feet in front of me. I went to the bar to get a
beer. The bartender apologized because the beer wasn't cold yet, then he realized that WE
WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE so he told us to get out. You guys were just rehearsing. We
waited till midnight but you still didn't get on stage. Sorry Jack but we left. It's OK
though, those few minutes all alone watching you rehearse was well worth it. Another
thing, My brother and I have this private thing that when we play 7 card stud poker and
either of us has a Jack and a Deuce for the first two up cards we have to pay 2 dollars to
the other. It's in honor of you. Jack Deuce = Jack Bruce. So if a fan shows you a Jack and
a Deuce it's probably me.

Dear Jack: I have already left two posts, but as I continue reading the incredible
words of admiration, encouragement and love coming to you from around the world, I am
simply blown away. It is obvious from this amaizingly moving outpouring of sympathy and
encouragement that there are still many fans of music that isn't 'manufactured' but rather
created in the mind, heart and soul of a musician who always stayed true to his roots and
at once retained his musical integrity in a business that is sorely lacking in that
commodity. I am so full of emotion at what all these beautiful people are expressing to
you that I don't know what to say except after spending 35 years getting into your head
and heart through your music, and meeting you on several occasions, I feel like you are
family and it is obvious I am not alone. We all love you Jack; you were given a wonderful
gift and despite some rough times you displayed limitless willpower to share your gift
with so many all over the planet. You are an enigma, and I believe someday your music will
be required material for music students at the finest performing art schools throughout
the world. I have your autograph which you graciously signed after a grueling 90 minute
kick-ass gig in Philly with Ginger in 1990; and I would not trade it for Beethoven's,
Chopin's, Wagner's, etc. (or all of them if offered). Thank God you pulled through the
worst- make sure those nurses keep that PCA pump filled! I will not ramble anymore except
to say my son, a 16 year-old bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter was inspired by you at
a very early age. (I'm a drummer who's raising a smart young man!) God bless and best
wishes to you and your family and close friends, especially Derek who makes all of this
possible and what a fine job he does for you, and us! Get well ASAP, as someone pointed
out in another post: you've got an album to get out there and promote with a real tour of
the states. Best wishes to Bernie as well- your recent crisis must be very hard on him as
well. I cherish the photo he let my son take of me with him in front of BB King's in NYC-
Thanks Bernie, you are also a real class act! Thank you for allowing me to ramble on, but
I had to get it out Jack! Heal man, heal!!!

Best wishes Jack for a speedy recovery. I still say you're the best singer in the
history of rock, miles above Robert Plant. It's too bad Cream didn't last very long. You'd
get far more airplay on my favourite radio program, Psychedelic Sunday, on Q107 in
Toronto, if you had.

Hi Bruce Family
I was stunned when I read of Jack's op - with that on his mind just how can he have
been so very accommodating and informative when Glenn and I visited him days before to put
together the interview piece that we had arranged to do ?? What a guy !! I have never met
anyone so focussed and I'm sure this will be reflected in the article (which we shall run
in our next issue) Jack - you are an example of ability and determination, long may you
thump those bass strings ! This family wishes you every good fortune to make up for these
problems

Jack, some 30 years ago one of your songs saved my life. At the time I had been a young
heroin addict without hope, but listening to "November Song" gave me the
strength to give up the drugs right there and then for good. I hope you get well very
soon, so that I can enjoy many more of your albums and gigs, and perhaps you might even do
a new version of "November Song" one day.
"More Jack Than God" is another master piece.

Hey Jack, I am so glad that you are doing much better. I am friends with Godfrey

at the night you played at the Westbuy Music Fair. The tour just wasn't the same without
you this past summer. I pray that you get back on your feet real soon, and maybe even hit

Dear Jack, Have loved all your music since Cream days. Saw you perform at a tribute
concert for John Lennon in Cambridge Mass in 1980. What an inspiring show; hereing White

we are both big fans of your music for many years. I hope you are feeling better and
recovering from the liver transplant. I was treated for Hepatitis C virus last year which
has been determined as successful for which I feel blessed and thankful although it was
difficult. We all hope you'll recuperate and take good care of yourself so that we can see
and hear your songs again when you are ready. Don't let the leaden winter bring you down
forever. God bless you.

Hello Jack, Am deeply saddened on hearing the news of your illness, but heartened with
the positive comments of your family.
Hope & pray for your speedy recovery as I look forward to traveling again from here
to see you perform songs from your brillant new album, just like I witnessed a couple of
years ago when you performed an excellent show in your hometown promoting "Shadows in

For what it's worth in my opinion your the best musician/vocalist ever.

We are praying for a full recovery. Saw you with Cream in California in early 1968 0n
my way home from Navy service. We hadn't heard Cream where I was and your bass playing
virtuosity knocked me out. I had been used to the old Big Band chords. In the early '90's,
I met you briefly at Toad's Place in New Haven and you inspired me to take up the bass
again. You are a soft spoken intellectual giant in the music industry and will always have
a very large spot in my heart. Thank you.

Dear Jack,
Today I learned of your struggle and eventual success and I want to send you all the
best and hopes for a long life. Your music was a huge step in my musical evolution and
inspired me to pick up a guitar and give it a go myself.
My wife also suffers from a liver disease (although she has never done drugs or taken a
drink), so we certainly share some of the feeling you and your family have experienced.
Thank you for the music you have given us and I hope we can continue to listen for
years to come.

Please let me express sincere best wishes for your recovery. Sounds as though it was a
close shave. Your fans are set for great listening with the recent Sanctuary release and
all the Polydor remasters. So take it easy and get well! And at some point we'll look for
that third Sanctuary record. Thanks for your perserverence in making great music for a
less than sympathetic market.

Dear Jack
I have read most of the e-mails on the website and can't really add too much more.
All I can say is that you have touched the lives of more people than it is possible to
comprehend and consistently produced thoughtful innovative and challenging music wherever
and whenever.
On behalf of my extended family (and each year a new batch of young musicians get to
hear and attempt ot replicate your work)and every one of my friends who are true music
lovers, please get yourself fit and well and then, who knows.
Please take things gently and don't let them tempt you to overdo it.
Much love from us all

Dear Jack,
I've just learned of your illness. I have been a HUGE fan of yours since the 60s. You
are the finest bassist in rock (or any other genre) and your voice is incredible! I have
seen you with Ringo several times over the last few years and again on the 'Walk Down
Abbey Road" tour. I never miss a chance. Your new CD "MJTG" is fantastic. I
wish you a speedy recovery and all the best in the future. You are a truely remarkable
talent and true good guy. I'm a fan forever!

As a long time fan going back to the Graham Bond days I was excited about the new
release. Bought it..Love it...then the news in regards to your health. Wow! Glad to hear
you are doing fine. Love the new disc...keep 'em coming. As a radio dics jockey I must say
that rock music does not offer the musicianship I was weaned on so thanks again for
swimming upstream and rocking outside the box!
