Dear Jack -

Today after reading your birthday message, I simply must contribute one more voice to the hundreds/thousands you've heard from already. I'm a long time fan and am indebted beyond words to you for the joy, inspiration and education you've provided me all these 35+ years. After hearing about your illness last year, the haunting words of Consul at Sunset came immediately to mind. With your recovery, happily, they have again given way to hope. You've had and continue to have my silent prayers. Your voice seemed unconquerable at your autumn, 2002, New York performances at BB King's. Now I am looking forward to the next show. Take your time and bend it back again – until you can sing those unsung songs once more. Here’s to your running again out over the moon. We’ll be watching your trails as you raise your smile. A heartfelt, if belated, happy birthday!

Jack,

I just saw this and I wanted to wish you the best of luck to you and your family. Keep on Rockin, your not through yet !!

I am 52 currently, grew up in New York City and the very first concert I went to was at Madison Square Garden during the "Goodbye Cream" tour. They had this stage in the middle that would spin slowly. I wonder if that was annoying to you on stage. It was a memory I will never forget.

I love your music and you have personally given me a lot with your unique, inventive style and great voice.

G_D bless you and your family.

One last thing, I have Hep C and must have had it for over twenty years. Got told several years ago when I got rejected for life insurance. SO there will be some time where I will be waiting myself for a liver transplant.

I am a sober alcoholic for 23 years, but, and have been very fortunate.

Best of luck and I hope to see you on the stage soon.

Jon Temple

Hope you are doing very well, Jack - and are getting stronger & stronger. You have provided me with so much happiness and inspiration... You have created some of the greatest work in the history of the music business. I saw Cream in NYC, Madison Sq. Garden, 1967 & remember it as if it was a month ago.

Push for a Cream reunion!! You deserve the money, and so does Ginger. Now that that awful manager is out of the picture (ex-Clapton manager) -- the timing is right! Talk to Eric, get it going, Jack! We'll be there for you. Plus a film to record it. Everyone wants it. I would love to handle your Internet promotion, as that is what I do for a living. Your entire fan base is on the Internet a good part of every day, like me.

Thanks for all your wonderful vocals, tremendous song-writing and great bass playing... You have brought great joy to tens of millions of people who still think about you a great deal.

Best, Geoffrey Sadwith NYC

Hi Jack,

I am a long time fan. You are one of my favorite bassists & vocalists both. I just now found out about your illness, & I am overjoyed to hear that your recovery is going so well. My mother is in the final stages of terminal cancer, so I know the grief & worry that your family has endured. I am too happy for words for them as well. I have never had the pleasure of seeing you perform live, & I hope that we get the chance to correct that soon :-). I have an extensive collection of your music, & I've enjoyed it all many times over. "FOOL'S MOON" on the GOV'T MULE: DEEP END VOL.1 album was definitely one of the highlights of that entire project. Thanks for the untold hours of listening pleasure that you have provided me with over the years. I will be thinking positively for your speedy recovery. Get well soon & ROCK ON!!!

Dear Jack, I feel that I must first tell you that you have an incredible voice and are(I think)one of the greatest bass players of all time.God has really blessed you with so many talents! As a young bass player myself, I look up to you and hope that one day I can play as well as you. I am really happy(and relieved)that your transplant was successful and that you are still with us. I look forward to when you will once again play rock & roll and keep rock & roll alive for many years to come. After all, we bass players must stick together-we are running out of them-in less than 2 years we've sadly lost John Entwistle and Noel Redding. Unfortunately they did not make it to 61, but I'm glad to know you did! Happy Birthday Jack(and I hope there's many more)and get well soon! I wish you much luck for the future! Long live rock, Kelly

Jack, it's marvelous to see that little greeting on your Web page. When I saw the first news about your illness on the CNN text crawl it hurt like all hell. This is the shadow-side of that other day. Here's hoping the recovery continues well; meantime we'll just play your music and smile. Speaking of music, it's also wonderful that your back catalogue is making its way out into the stores again. Out into the fields, indeed. I was playing *Jet Set Jewel* the other night and the playing is just astonishing, likewise the 2-CD live set with Carla Bley (I'd gotten to hear you on radio, King Biscuit? that year -- truly a great band as well), but I'm just as blown away by *More Jack Than God* -- "So They Invented Race" is a piece I'd love to play for my students in Culture Studies this coming year. Anyway, Jack, All Bright Blessings for your recovery, of course; I hope it'll cheer you to know how many of us simply play your music and think good thoughts for you. It's the least we can do, after all. Just be healthy, Jack. Much Cheer.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend and cannot wait to see you live again, last time was at the barrowlands as B.B.M. man you rocked, please remember us glesga folk when you and your people map out tour dates, in fact just organize the dates yourself and do a pub-crawl of every pub in glasgow, i'll buy the beer and carry your bass.I was not so lucky with my liver transplant, i got george best's old one (Glesga shoomur). Only jokin mate, i'm sure that after the ordeal you and your family have been thro, a wee bit of banter would not go wrong. It reminds me of my girlfriends recent visit to the doctor, every time she sneezed she had an orgasim, the doctor asked if she was taking any thing for it and she said yes lots of pepper. If I don't hear from you i will presume that the pub-crawl is cancelled and you would prefer to buy your own beer anyway.Have to go, the nurse is coming up the corridor an i'm offski, deepest admiration and respect, Big Gordon the biker, end of transmition.

I saw you in Pittsburgh when you came with the All-Star Band in, I think it was 1996, and I was beside myself. You and John Entwistle are the most amazing bassistsI ever saw They should ask you to join the Who. If you ever come back to Pittsburgh, Kelly and I will be there, front row centre! Especially Kelly. I'm gonna tell her to look at your hands the whole time, and take notes! Keep on rockin, Che.

Jack I had no idea you were ill. My thoughts are with you. You are the reason I am playing the bass guitar. The first time I heard Crossroads just blew me away. I panned my stereo to the left to try and remove Erics solos so I could hear the amazing bass work. Your playing is beyond words, never playing the same fill twice. I try to emulate your style but always fail miserably. Get well soon. Can't wait to see you on stage again. My respect always Paul Millington

Dear Jack,

about 10 years younger than You are, I've got a bad mood to read that You've got a similar desease that I've got.

Your music gave me a lot, not only good feelings living in pubescent times of growth in body, soul and consciousness, but espacially in getting old.

To become real old, that is what I wish for You. But this should happen in the best way You wish.

Good Luck V.B.

Dear Mr.Bruce I don't know if this letter will reach you with so many writting you but here goe's anyway, I have just learned of your illness after checking your web-site and it really shook me for a second and then I read of your recovery and I truly had a incredible sense of relief, Jack, I don't usually write fan letters but this one I feel I have to, to say you have been an influence on me as musician would have to be an incredible understatement, when I was fifteen and learning bass I learned very fast, influenced by the whole british invasion thing, the beatles, stones, the who etc; but when I heard you with the cream I knew where I wanted to be as a bassist, I learned so much from you, playing in the pocket, on the pocket outside the pocket ha ha ha, you were great then and you are GREAT now, I truly consider you my greatest influence and truly my main teacher on the bass. I can go on but may I say God bless you stay healthy and thank you for being the incredible musician you are. Sincerly Nick Fanelli

I'm was so worried to hear about the complications of your transplant and hugely releaved to hear of your recovery. I feared that the bass world was going to lose another of its greats, after the untimely death of John Entwistle. You have been and continue to be my primary inspiration (i'm a bass player myself). When i was learning to play, your music and playing were both peaks to aim for with my own development. You've inspired me with so many aspects of my musical career: bass playing, composing, singing, and just your willingness to try new and exciting things. For all of this i thank you and hope you have many, many years ahead of you.

Hello Jack, I hope you are feeling well after your transplant, it really is a major operation to have; but if it cures the cancer then it is well worth it. I've been a fan since the Cream days and look forward to hearing more of your music in the future.

Goodbye and goodluck. Ken.

Greetings: If not for you, I would surely not have become a musician(bassist!)---your playing and singing were a real inspiration for me---------I saw you play in NYC at the Bottom Line(circa 1980--the Aria bass days) and remember it like it was yesterday! Live long and prosper! Richard Myron

Dear Jack - Greetings from America! I'm so glad to hear your recovery is going along well. I've always been a big admirer of yours, dating back to the Graham Bond days (I still have the "Sound of '65 album! Love it!). Also, the last place that Cream ever played in the US - Providence, RI - well, the place is torn down now, but I know exactly where it is and when I drive by it I gaze at it like a shrine! You're the best damn bass player the world has ever seen (or heard). God bless you and your family, and in a parallel universe, I hope to jam with you some day (I'm a drummer) - all the best - Al
