I saw your show in Nottingham in October 2001. Your performance was well worth the trip. "We're going wrong" was especially poignant after the events of Sept 11. I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to a US tour in the near future.

Hello Jack; I sure hope things are working out for you. I was just listening to your NSU from Cities of the Heart with Ginger. It turned a low-down day into good as I was digging your grooves.

I'm hear to see what kinds of Bass you play, as my daughter (16) is looking into taking up Bass and I of course wanted to see what the best uses.

Was surprised to see of your health problems, and want to wish you well. I've been loving the Jack Bruce Bass for 30 years since I was teenager. Loved your work with Leslie West, sure would like to see you guys do it again. I see Mountain when they're in town (Detroit). Leslie cracks me up, what an attitude! Richie Scarlett is a wannabee, they need the big balls on Bass. Come on, Jack! You guys were a great pairing.

Best Regards, Philip Mollica

I´ve seen you a lot of times since 1980 in different countries. I love your music (both jazz and rock and blues) since I can remember (about the late sixties). I wish you all the best. Keep you healthy. It´s the most important. Of course I would like seeing you on the road again, making records. But.... there is no doubt : your music will live for a long time - at least 50 years. But what about you ? I hope the best for you as a person, that you´ll manage as many years as possible. I can´t love you because I don´t know you as a person. But i sure love your music. A lot of people - familiy and friends - love you as a person, not as an artist. Think of them !!! Have good time. We others can hear your music almost every day.

Best wishes from all my heart to you, the best bassplayer I,ve ever heard.

Jack , Best wihes to to you. Have a speedy recovery.

In my opinion, you have one of the best voices in Hard Rock. When you and Eric sang " Born Under a Bad Sign", you're the voice that I listened to.The Raw power of your Bass playing as well as your voice has left a lasting impression on me. You were the driving force of "Cream" in my opinion.

Warm Regards, Always your Fan,,,,Rudy

Hey Jack man!!:

I was just enjoying the reissue of Songs for a tailor, even had made two copies of the album(one for a bassist friend in Chile who truly admires you, every single high pitch glissando he approachs reminds me and him also of your style boss!),then i found out of your health problem in the mojo magazine.Well,Thank God youre alright Jack,he really knows you must stay around lots of years still man!Thank you for your band Cream, for your voice and your music, for the years that Harmony Row as been a musical companion for me and my friends(you cant imagine how many years we waited for this reissues,we had to conform for noveltys with old argentin copies of A question Of time or so!)Thank you also for changing the rules of popular music, over the truecriminal harm that most teachers inflicts in music academys all over the world, trying to pretend that rock didnt exist or that it never changed the face of earth,God knows it did and permanently,so be it with his will!Last thing, wish you lots of future toasts with chilean wine too,Get soon well and back on the road soon again,Mr Jack Bruce!!

Jack, I'm in a Blues Band called Tommy B. and the Stingers, and I probably wouldn't be if I hadn't gotten hooked on Cream when I was in college back in the 60's. I went out and got an EB-3, and proceeded to try to be you. I've since switched to lead guitar, but your vocal power is still an inspiration and at jam sessions I still strap on my bass and play the hell out of I'm So glad, Spoonfull, and Crossroads.

Can't thank you enough. Get well soon, you're needed.

Thanks,

Tommy Blake

Dear Jack, I hope and pray that you get well soon. You are one of the main reasons I took up playing bass as a teen. I am not a professional, but I do play bass at church and consider it a pleasure and a gift to be able to do so. There are many bass players I have listened to, but in my opinion you are one the pioneers of the instrument and took it to new levels. I want to thank you for all you have done and continue to do for the music industry. Without musicians like you, life and music would be very boring.

May God Bless

I was a big "Cream" fan in the '60s. I now "pass the torch" to my son who actually is in a local band (www.psychotic4.com - he is second one from the left) is now a big fan of your booming/throaty voice. We just learned of your illness. You have given such pleasure to so many over the years - we wish you all the best and hope you fully recover soon. Regards, Hugh and Pat Bennett.

Best wishes for Jack getting well as soon as possible from Hamburg. Since my friends and me have seen Jack with Cream at the Star Club in Hamburg in 1967 I had loved his music and visited his concerts through all the years, the last time in 2001 in the 'Fabrik' in Hamburg.

We hope to see the best bass-player and the most interesting pop-componist we know on stage again.

Jack, get up.

Dear Jack;

Best wishes for a continued strong recovery from your close call. I wish we fans could inspire you to the best health ever in the same way you have inspired generations of adventurous musicians.

Of course I have all (well almost all!) of your CD's (and a few bootleg tapes, videos and the new DVD) and saw you play twice in Detroit. Once from about twenty feet away when you played with the Tony Williams' Lifetime (you played a maple neck Fender! - I think) and the other time from the edge of the stage at the old Grande with West Bruce & Lang - probably the most awesome concert I've ever attended (I even copped your high-rise red leather boots!).

I was a bass player then ('67 EB3) earning my way through University and 28 years on I still plunk about (with a Jazz Bass, MM Sterling and recently re-acquired '69 EB3). Somewhat incongruously - from my real life day gig as a city planner - I explain to my musically-inclined Primus-crazed 10-year son that Jack Bruce was the Les Claypool of his time! And besides Jack can actually really sing!

Over decades you (and a few other 'drive to the edge' great players: Chris Squire, Tim Bogert, Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Flea, Les) have provided so many countless hours of musical thrill-riding that I can hardly thank you enough. (Hey, that lucky Bernie Worrel: Jack and Les too!). Speakin' of linkages, we sort of share one! - in the 70's I played in a Detroit-area band with a great guitarist (Joe Konas aka Joe Wayne) from Britain who'd replaced Mick Taylor in The Gods after he'd left for the Stones - who of course left the Stones and played in one of your bands - OK, not that much of a link, but I couldn't resist.

Anyways, I look forward to seing you play live for a third time and hope you can tour the west coast or Detroit area again soon. Otherwise I'd have to drag my son with me to that dreary little always damp island and challenge your new liver to a pint of your favourite brew!

All the best in health and happiness. Now I just need to go out and get Apostrophe and/or Monkjack. Or play the live Wheels of Fire one more time.

Sincerely, James Seltz

(Thank God for the internet - and well-updated websites like yours.)

Hope your recovery is smooth with minimal complications. It can be very hard or it can be not so hard ... if you have a chance, my story is at www.awakenings.com/ltxp

You have always appeared on the magazine Cover Baixo which is licensed by The Bassplayer here in Brazil as you are a real source of inspiration and admiration for bassists in my coutry. I hope you will get better and better after the surgery that, thank God, was a success! I`m writing to you at this moment listening to your song from Disraeli Gears(The Cream): Take it Back. Beautiful bass and beautiful voice as well. I`m just like you: I like small and light basses, but I haven`t found one yet. Could you please suggest one trade mark, where I can get it etc?! That`s all for the moment and hope to see you at work really soon. The world of the 4 strings needs you, man!!!

Dear Jack, the first time I ever heard you play was on a jukebox in a café somewhere in Denmark. To be more precise - it was in my hotel room which was on top of the café. At night me and my brother, we were quite young then, lay listening to the fabulous opening chords to "I Feel Free". We didn´t really what song or what artist it was, since mom wouldn´t let us go into that smokey café to find out. Somehow we eventually got to know what song it was, and we went out to buy it. Since then I´ve bought every record you´ve released, not only your own recordings, but also records on which you appear, including Carla Bley´s "Escalator over the Hill"

You are the only artist that I´ve seen perform four times, and every time you have come across with energy and passion.

I wish you a speedy recovery, and I hope to see and hear you many times in the future

Lasse Brandt

PS I once said that if I ever got a son he would be named Jack, but my wife refused. It didn´t really matter - he turned out to be a bass player anyway

I was very shocked and sorry to hear of your recent illness and operation and I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I do hope you will take time to rest and recuperate properly - but there's a gig at Klooks Kleek tonight - twenty quid - can you make it! Seriously - take very special care Jack and much love to you, Magrit and the children.

Hi Jack, I was devastated to hear about your illness but totaly over the moon to hear that your transplant has been such a success. I have followed your career since I was at school, bought The sound of 65 and have been an avid fan ever since. One of my greatest memories was when you spoke to me at the Club a GoGo in Newcastle when you were playing with Cream. It's such a brilliant thing to meet your heroes when your that age. That night I managed to catch both sets in the Young Set and the Jazz Lounge (even though I was under age for the latter). Well many a year has pased since then but your albums (& CD's) are still part of my daily listening. As I write this I am listening to Shadows in the Air, which I think is brilliant. I'm also very much enjoying More Jack Than God. Keep up the good work Jack I look forward to seeing you again in 2004 and following your work for many years to come. All the VERY best. I'm so glad to hear about the successful surgery! I first learned about Jack because of Cream. Even though I'm a guitar player I always admired Jack's playing and singing even more than Eric's. In the 1960's (I'm 49 now) I eagerly awaited each new Cream album and later the solo albums. My all-time favorite is Songs For A Tailor. Jack is absolutely one of my musical heroes, right up there with Hendrix, Nat Cole, Louie Jordan, Dave Brubeck and Muddy Waters! Get back to work soon. We all need to hear more Jack! Jack played in Kansas City only once that I know of, with West, Bruce and Laing. Edgar Winter was the opening act. We had good seats but one of my friends had done some bad THC and started hallucinating and we had to leave. We sat in the car outside of Memorial Hall and listened to the whole show. Man was I pissed! My friend is clean and sober now but I'll never forgive him for that! Funny thing, about 10 years after that concert I was at an estate sale and I bought a long sleeve t-shirt from that tour. I've never worn it but I'll never get rid of it! Get well soon Jack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I just found out about your illness via Mastermind, a U.S. prog band of great talent and integrity and are also huge fans with a direct link to your site for finding the guest book. I have been a fan since Fresh Cream and got to see you here in Eureka a few years ago with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. I had a great time seeing you all and you were just awesome on the fretless and the violin bass as well...your voice is just legendary and one of my all-time faves is you singing on Allan Holdsworth's Road Games...man you are so good.I am so happy to see you are recovering and are planning on staying. Roye Albrighton of Nektar just went through the same thing and he is already back on stage so I know it won't be long for you too if you still feel like performing. Anyway, I just want to add my good thoughts from the Redwoods and let you know Sir, that you are cherished and respected beyond your wildest dreams. Be well Sir Jack, Rand Anthony Kelly.

My brother runs a Frank Zappa tribute band and they did a concert last week to remember Frank. I flew up to Edinburgh to play Apostrophe with them - a small payback, but that one was for you.

Hi!I'm glad you made it and came through. You've been an inspiration for my music listening and playing. Last week I bought the newly released "Jet Set Jewel" on CD, and it's a pity that it wasn't released back in '78. It's a great record! I hope you'll get your strenght back to get a good life and to be able to make more fine records to balance all the other shit ("computer designed music") that exists. Last but not least; I managed to get a copy of your concert in Stockholm March 1967. Do you remember that concert? A well performed one! By by

Hell, Jack, I just read aout your scrape with the Grim Reaper.

I have a CD that I play in my car almost every day. It's you, Ginger Baker and Gary Moore featuring Ginger on the cover art smoking a cigarette and wearing angel's wings! I love the music and love hearing your voice.

It's the same voice I used to listen to in high school when we would crank up Fresh Cream in my buddy's old Chevy and scream around the school parking lot instead of being in class.

The same voice we heard in about 1973 when you came to our town with West, Bruce and Laing.

So, Jack, it's good to hear that you're on the mend. We aren't ready to give up hearing that voice and bass playing. I read an interview with Mr. Clapton not long ago and he paid you quite a compliment, saying that he learned more from you about being a musician than anyone else he has played with.

Damn, what an epitath!!

Regards!

Dear Jack,

I'm airing Disraeli Gears tonight for our "Classic Album Playback" feature, and heard about your condition, so thought I'd chime in with my best wishes for a full and healthful recovery. If you haven't spoken with him yet, I'd suggest you communicate with one of your contemporaries about his transplant, namely Phil Lesh, one of the two greatest bass players in the history of rock. Well, one of the three greatest, if one includes Entwistle. And I do.

I saw you perform on Ringo's All-Star Tour a few years ago, along with Peter Frampton, Gary Brooker, and Simon Kirke. My friend who saw the show with me and I agree: it was absolutely one of the very best concerts either of us ever saw, and that's saying a lot! We hope to see you again soon.

I had a good friend in the mid-70's who almost became the bass player for Lynyrd Skynrd right as they were cutting their first album. I can remember how awed he was at that time with your playing. He had never seen a bass player who played chords on the bass.

Wishing you the best!

Dear Jack, get well...stay well. Be as good a patient as you are a musician. I still love "Songs For A Tailor" and all your great works with others. I first saw you with Cream. A couple of years later with Jack Bruce and friends(Mitch Michell, et al) and a couple of times with Leslie West. Great stuff, all. Thanks, Fred
