Jack,

Recover swiftly and soon, man! If Jim Nabors can do it, so can you. Way back when, I can only begin to tell you how important Cream was, not just musically, also sociologically. The imagry of the soundscape was an essental component of the times that significantly contibuted to propelling the inertia of whatever that counter-culture scene was forward.

Your first two solo albums: Wow!!!!

When I saw you at the Bottom Line with Ginger, I'll never how great that show was becasue I taped both sets. Also, I'll never forget the visuals of when Ginger deservingly and most humorously in a rightous way to put out the fake pretensions of imitation cool poured water on Blues' head during a second set solo, while Blues was on his back copying Jimi from Monterary Pop. Other than Blues, it was a fuckin' great show, man. After the show I got you and Ginger to sign my Atco Records Turn Onto Cream psychedelic poster. Way back in '68 when I was in 11th grade I told the owwner of the record store that I went to, that I wanted that poster which just came in after Wheels On Fire was released. Eight months later he gave it to me. This was just outside of Washington D.C., which was really political during the last half of the '60s.

I also saw you in Los Angeles at The House of Blues with Ringo, whom I first saw at The Concert For Bangladesh. This was also another great show. I really wanted to see Ringo again. And becaue you were on bass - Damn It!! - I had to pay $85 to see you, even though I really coulod not afford it. Nonetheless, well worth it casaue I got to see and hear you in live performance again.

I have on VHS tape your appearance on Sunday Night when you told David Sanborn that you first met in a parking lot in Detroit causing a chagrinned David to smile defensively and the band with Hiram et cetera to break out laughing!!!!!

Like John McLaughlin, whom I am frindly with, you have been a very important part of my musical development: For example, becasue Fresh Cream did a song credited to Robert Johnson, I went out and bought the frist Columbia Robert Johnson album.

Although, I am basically a book author and have a Master's in Anatomy because I was thinking about becoming a neurobiologist research scientist, I became a realtively proficient country blues guitarist. When I perform, I play acoustic countrty blues music. I can't sing so it is just instrumental fingerpicking music with a driving rhythm, a heavy back beat, moving bass lines and melodic improvizations, along with some interesting harmony to round out the sound that gets people up on their feet, clinking beer bottles together and shouting. When I introduce meyself I state,

"Good evening. I am The Blues Vegetables. If Blind Lemmon Jefferson was in my group we would be The Blues Fruits and this would have a whole other meaning. So, I am The Blues Vegetables".

You will not "burn alone". We are all rootin' for ya'!!!!! Fully recover and add some more wonderful music to the planetary sounds. The Earth would be better off.

My freind, Dennis Loren, designed a book of mine called 1001 Popular Music Questions, that we are still trying to sell to book publishers. Dennis was that last art director of Cream, magazine that is, for its last five years. You can see some of Dennis' psychedlic poster art at two web sites: www.posterplanet.com and www.bluemoonbiz.com. Dennis has designed over 800 records, cds and has done scores of posters. Dennis has some artist who only use him to create their concert posters, such as the White Stripes. Mojo just did an article on Detroit muscians that featured some of Dennis' poster art. Whenever we sell this book your amazing and imporatnt muscial contributions to the story of the development of the popular music of the previous century will be duely noted and lauded. Gordon Edwards of Stuff, along with a number of other professional musicans I know; wrote a nice recommedation for this book to use in advertizements and on the back and inside covers to help sell the book.

One fast Gordon story: When I moved to LA from NYC my Martin D12-18 was stolen by the movers. I have had this guitar since '76 and it was actually built in '74 when the Martin factory shipped it out as a special order. This 12-string was a beautiful guitar with natching knotholes on the face. I bought this guitar so that I could sound like Blind Willie McTell. Year ago, outside a club after a gig with Cornell, Jimmy Norman, my good buddy, and Stuff II's keyboard player; Gordon tell this story that his main bass guitar that he recorded with King Curtis, Aretha and so many others during the '60s while on tour in the early '70s was stolen. Gordon said that this bass had some distinguishing wear on the face of the instrument. That whenever he sees someone palying bass on television he always gives a close look to see if it is his stolen bass that is being played. Gordon also said,

"Of all the Holiday Inns and other cheap hotels I stayed at, this guitar was stolen while I was staying at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel!!!"

I remembered this story. So, I call Gordon to tell him my hard luck story about my stolen 12-string guitar. Because your guitar is your sound, I tell Gordon that, "Losing a guitar is like losing a woman." Gordon then replies in his gravelly voice: "It's worse!!!!!"

Hang in there. You're still an amazing and inspiring cat.

Thanks for the music and memories!

I havn't visited the site for a couple of months and was shocked to hear of Jacks illness. As much as I am shocked, I am overjoyed to hear that Jack is making a good recovery. Jack....you're a real trooper and an inspiration......those bass tones of yours have inspired many to pick up and play...me included.

Good luck and warmest wishes to you and your family for the future.

Jack: Here's hoping your recovery is steadily moving forward. I must say that I was shocked and saddened to learn of your illness last year. It was quite a relief, however, to later learn that you were "on the mend."

Here's hoping that you're back on your feet as soon as possible and that your creative energy will once again flow forth. I'm a long time fan, having first seen you perform in Providence, RI with Cream in 1967. In the ensuing years, I was able to catch a club performance with Ginger (1988), and several shows with Ringo. Last summer, I saw the "Abbey Road" tour Hyannis, MA and enjoyed your incredible numbers most of all.

Thanks for sharing your talent and your humanity with us fans. I truly hope that you are well and that the new year brings you happiness and very good health. Bless you, Jack.

Dear Jack - Get well soon! Your music has inspired me throughout my life. I play sax, flute, blues harp and drums. I started out playing rock and now play jazz and blues(but still love to rock. I played drums in a sax trio (on SST records) and told people that our concept was to play like live Cream with Rhaasan Roland Kirk on sax. I really loved your modal improvisation concept in Cream and felt it was a lot like Ornette's harmolodics idea - especially the Ornette on Tenor record. Your composition and performance all through your career is great. I wish you good health, happiness, prosperity, and many many more years of great music making!

Hi Jack,

Congratulations on your successful transplant and good luck on your recovery.

I've never spoken to you but I have admired your work for many years. I saw you perform one time at the Shrine in L.A. with Cream. However, my favorite of all your projects is "Harmony Row". My daughter recently visited her fiancee in England and brought me back a new copy (cd) of it. I love to play it for my adult children and watch their faces in amazement. One of these days, I would like to see you perform at "The Baked Potato" in L.A. It's a great club and I know you would enjoy it. I recently saw Allan Holdsworth play there. Andy Summers also plays there a lot. If you do, I will be the guy who asks you to sign my Harmony Row CD.

Once again, good luck with your health.

Sincerely,

Steve

Jack, I'm a long time fan who has most of your recorded material and I have seen you play live many times. I am very glad to hear that you pulled through liver transplant surgery and best of luck for a speedy recovery. By the way, I saw Leslie West and Corky Laing as Mountain last month and Leslie announced to the crowd that you had just had the surgery and he dedicated the song "Why Dont'cha" to you to much applause. I'm trying to find the "Live'N'Kickin" on CD - great version of "Playin' With Fire." Thanks for the years of great music - Get well! Sincerely, Steve

Thank you for all this fantastic music, you did in the last decades. I enjoy this music very much (although I'm quite young of age) and I'm especially happy about the 2003-release of your forgotten masterpiece "Jet Set Jewel".

Merry Christmas, a happy new year and get well soon

Jack,

First want to wish you a great strong recovery. G-d bless you. Trust you are well and want to thank you for all the great music, poetry and style over the years.

Been a fan of yours since "Hector was a pup." I finally got to see you up in Salem, New Hampshire with Ringo's All Star Band. Then at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire with Todd Rungren.

My prescription as you recover, put on a track of "As You Said" and relax. Man, that cello and those vocals.

Good luck and stay strong. As a musician (bass, guitar, vocals) and composer I would like to thank you for giving so much GOOD music to all of us and for being an inspiration to me as a bassist and singer. I have always concdered your compositions to be unclassifiable in the best way. The greatest artists take their influences and create something new. In an industry that thrives on sameness, imitation and redundancy you have been a true original and have always remained foremost an ARTIST. P.S. My 17 year old son Michael,a fine young drummer, saw you perform with Ringo and thought you were awesome. He sends his good wishes also. Jack I don't know what i've been doing the last 6 months but I was unaware of your illness. Fond memories of cream days and also especially seeing you at Strathclyde Uni late seventies (and buying a curvets army? tape). I bought a cd today "Out of the storm" and liked most of it, played it to my son, 17 year old, and told him how good you were. I hope to listen more and hopefully those iffy ones grow on me. From experience the iffy one usually do grow into the best ones given a bit of listening. I Decided to find out about your recent music and found out about your illness, glad you are making good. I know life has its ups and downs and hope you are going through a high now. Take care. Have a great new year.

I am a 49 yr old rock and roller with strong roots in England so I have been following your career from the start along with other English musicians such as John Mayall, Long John Baldry, etc. We never had the chance, living in South Florida, to see Cream. I did see West, Bruce, and Lang years ago. Believe you recorded a live album that night at Pirates World. Enough of that. Starting to sound like a groupie! Get well and come on through here again. Missed you with Ringo Starr. West, Bruce, and Lang. Now there is a reuinion. God Bless. Sincerely, js

Hey Jack. Well I'm only 21 years old but my dads vinyl cream, and your solo records have added a scratchy, static sound to my ears that is far better than the music of my generation. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the owner of a variety of genuinely unique talents, to be all the more prized in contemporary culture which reduces the art of popular music to aerobics.

Dear Jack: I am glad You are recovering, and in the healing process,I guess You have a ways to go.I had the privelege of seeing You and Ginger Baker, and Your band on December 8,1990.It was at the 23rd East caberet in Philadelphia,Pa.,USA. A gentleman named Bill Erwin who owns the Chestnut,Ambler and 23rd east cabaret's was kind enough to let me in,as I was underage.I was only 19 at the time.I really wanted to see You both,Your band, and Ginger and You,and You guys were beyond words,I really had a great time, and got Ginger's and Your autograph.(Picture of Ginger at a Blind faith concert).I hope You are doing well, and clean from drugs,as I remember seeing the spotlight hit Your forearm one time in the show, and all I had seen were trackmarks, and I almost cried.Jack,You're a good man,My Father died of drugs, and he was a drummer also, please clean Yourself up,I really respect You,and think You are a phenomenal entertainer. hi Jack, I just found out about your health, it was though a piece I read in "Progressive Ears". I hope this e-mail finds you on the road to recovery. I was a huge Cream fan, you were actually the first band i ever saw live. Baltimore Civic center, with Terry Reid and the Moody Blues. You've always been one of my favorite bass players, Percy Jones being the other. No one can lay down a landscape of sound like you and you have one of the best voices in rock. I'm listening to your new album as i write this, you just get better and better. I love your new rendition of "We're Going Wrong". "Harmony Row" is one of my all time favorites. What i'm ineptly trying to say is that you and your music means so much to me and i'm sure millions of others, so please get well soon. Randy

DEAR JACK,MARGRIT AND FAMILY, THE LAST TIME I WROTE WAS ON OCT.17 WHEN I READ OF YOUR ILLNESS. I REMINISCED ABOUT A YEAR EARLIER WHEN I SPOKE TO KIP AND HIS DAUGHTER FOR ALMOST 20 MINUTES, NON-STOP ABOUT THE JACKSTER.....MAN, DOES HE ADORE YOU AS WE ALL DO! WELL ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO I SPOKE TO VERNON REID(L.COLOUR WERE PLAYING BOWERY BALLROOM IN NYC) AND HE SAID YOU WERE DOING VERY WELL AND THAT YOU HAD A LOT OF GREAT NEW MATERIAL...YES!!!! THEN, WE RETIRED TO ABOOTH FOR A FEW MINS. WHILE HE EXPOUNDED ON HOW GREAT YOUR LATEST CD IS, ...THEN, WHEN I MENTIONED THE MAGNIFICENT FIRST CUT ON "SHADOWS...", BUT COULDN'T REMEMBER THE TITLE(I WAS QUITE HIGH), VERNON HAD A GLOW AND SMILE THAT I'LL NEVER FORGET AS HE LOOKED INTO THE AIR AND SAID,"AH...OUT IN THE FIELDS"...THEN< WHEN I TALKED ABOUT "LIFE ON EARTH", HE WAS EQUALLY VISUALLY ELOQUENT. I FEEL VERY LUCKY TO HAVE SPOKEN TO YOUR COLLABORATORS (FRIENDS) AT THOSE TIMES AND WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU......I TRULY BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE YOUR MUSIC TOUCHES...THOSE WHO WORK WITH YOU OR YOUR MILLIONS OF FANS (LIKE ME!) FEEL YOUR GREATNESS! HAVE A VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY AND RESTFUL NEW YEAR'S AND MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND YOURS....GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU AND, WHEN YOU'RE READY....I HOPE TO HEAR SOME OF THAT "GREAT NEW STUFF" VERNON SAYS YOU HAVE! Hello Jack, I wish you a swift recovery, I have played in many power trios and each one we have always performed Cream, Mountain and Hendrix tunes, one band we performed side two of Band of Gypsies, why they can,t play the good stuff on the radio I will never know, message of love always has and always will raise the hair on my ass, I think I have heard it on the radio once in my entire life, and if they ever played Spoonfull off wheels of fire on the radio I think I would go into a coma, hey Jack, I would cut my balls off and fry them in extra virgin olive oil and eat them in order to get a chance to play a tune with you some time, I stoped drinking and druging 8 years ago and my guitarist skills have tripled being sober, anyways if you get a chance to read this I hope all your medical test are all postive in your recovery, and if things keep improving with you and you did take me up on my offer to play with you I have to be honest with you and tell you that I would not cut off my balls, I am also being honest in telling you that I am damm good and you would not be disappointed. Right now I am working on a CD using pro tools and will be doing a very heavy and melodic arrangement of Nantucket Sleighride onto it along with my originals, I wish you the best and thank you so much for your very disciplined contribution to hard rock music over the years....Frank Bridges...

I originally created the Cuicoland Express website as a favour for a friend - Dennis Lawrenson. It's been a few years since then and I have grown to appreciate your music and energy (how could I avoid it with an advocate like Dennis extolling your virtues). I sincerely hope that your recovery is a complete one and that you get back to the thing they (the contributors to the Friends of Jack Bruce newsletter) all love so much.

Cheers for the new year and good luck to you and those you love.

Dear Jack! Actually I had been entering this web site to express my enthusiasm and thankfulness for "More Jack than God" (which one of the "Old Masters" is still able to create music of such beauty, freshness and intensity? Only you!), but instead of fighting with my English I was forced to read that you were fighting with death. I am very relieved that the healing powers have gained the upper hand in the meantime!!! THANK GOD (more than Jack??). During your steady and peaceful recovery and whilst preparing for the trip to Cuba, I'd suggest you compose that piece of Classical Music, that you talked about in an interview in the mid eighties. Was it a cello concert or a string quartet? Make it a symphony or an opera. YOU can do anything if you want to. May you and your family enjoy many more happy Christmas dinners (clumsy English but only the best intentions...)! Joern Schummer

Cream w/ Jack Bruce came to Dallas Texas 2 times, March 30, 1968 and October 25, 1969 was their farewell tour. As a young hipster of 14 & 15 years old then, I will always remember Jack and his bass and his fantastic vocals, but when he and Ginger do Traintime, and Jack blows that Harp, the world stands still. I always search for his CD's and will treasure them forever. Now @ 50, we all have paid a dear price for our rock and roll years, health problems, legal issues, drug problems, but when we can sit back and listen to the music the true joy and happiness of those days returns,as "We were on the way to a dream" (Deserted Cities of the Heart). Just like the Pressed Rat and Warthog, "it was all they had got"!! Peace and Love,

I read with sadness today about your health. You were an important part of my life. Although we have never met, I can say that through your music we have. I grew up in the 60's and began listening to Creme in 1967. I was at the Filmore for the Wheels of Fire concert. Your "Songs For A Tailor" album remains one of my favorite records from that period. I'm 24 and from glasgow (and a singing bass player hehe) so I've drawn inspiration from your career - let it continue for a long time to come (or for as long as you thirst for it).

There's mush to do before God send for you in a natural way.I wish you a merry and healthful life ride so I hope from now on you'll take care of health as hell because it's a great feeling and a very high "ride".Like Santana said "Purify your mind and clean your body".Well you dont need to do to your mind, so many loves and respect you. But let do that to your body. Start with plant juices and organic meat. I've always pray for you to do a better album in each try. But life has been ups and downs and not always it has been like I would like to people respond, specialy you that record music as a card for shows. This is the first time I've tried to contact you in any way and hope this get's trou. Hope to see you some day best wishes: Pedro F.

I hope you are recovering well ! "More Jack than Good" is the best album since "I`ve always wanted to do this" in my opinion. "More Jack" and "Jet set jewel" are on top on my playlist now.

I am just learning of your illness. I hope that this new year will bring only the very best for you.

Theme From An Imaginary Western is probably my favorite song...it literally changed the direction of my entire life...

I was listening to a version of Theme and looked into the mirror while driving along the beach. The sun was falling into the water*..it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

All of this happened-by accident-some 34 years ago.

Thank you so much for creating this song.

Very Best Regards,

Handlebar Henry-January 6, 2004

Jack, you have been such a tremendous influence on my career as a bassist. I was really floored to hear about your surgery, but very happpy to hear that you are doing well. I am one of those die hards who have been following you around from Cream to the present. I am proud to say that as a bass player, I have been kicked out of more bands for playing my 67' Gibson EB3. I would have to say that out of all bass players, (having never taken a lesson in my life) that you have been the sole mentor in my life as a musician. I don't think there has ever been anybody in my lifetime that has blown me away as much as you have with your unique playing and incredible singing. Just by coincidence, after playing in the business for over 30 years, I have finally found the time to put together a "Cream Tribute Band" in the NYC area. The agents are waiting to book us at B.B. Kings (saw you there too, as well as Madison Square Garden on your "goodbye" tour with Eric and Ginger)) and clubs like it. You see, tribute bands are quite popular in NY, but no one has had the courage (or talent) to take on this "lost art." I have found Ginger, and think we have Eric, so this could be my lifelong dream of playing the music that I love to play the most. Please take it as "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I had always hoped to meet you one day to get a few tips from the "master" but having heard about your illness, I wanted to convey my appreciation to you for having been a special part of my musical life. In my travels I know that there are a lot of bass players who feel the same way, and I thought you should know this at this time. Even though we are strangers, we share a special musical bond, and I thank you for being my teacher all these years!! I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. I still hope to meet you one day, but I will settle for seeing and hearing you once again on stage!!! You are the BEST! Take Care Jack!!! Michael

Jack you have had an enormous influence on me musically. I saw you with Leslie West and Corky Laing at the Paris Opera in 1971 (i think it was) and will never forget the concert.

I wish you the absolute best.

Twisting the dial yesterday I came across 'White Room' playing on a local radio station. I can't describe the goose bumps I got hearing it again after so long, especially on the empty airwaves of contempary radio. Like an amazing oasis in the middle of a desert. Get well. Thanks.

Hi Jack!!! A speedy recovery to you!! First heard you in '67, got my first bass in '68 and practised to Cream non-stop because I figured that's the way all bass players should sound. I finally had a chance to see you at the North Sea Jazz Fest in 2001 Please, be well and be back in action soon. I know this life can be a hard road at times but there must be a reason for the rough times we go through... take care george

Hello Mr. Bruce, First I would like to wish you well and I am happy you are recovering from your illness. Secondly, I want to tell you what an honor it is to be able to actually email you and express how much your music has encouraged and enlightened me through the years. Your work with CREAM was something that got me on the road to playing guitar and I have been at it since I played SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE as the first song I played in public. (We ended up playing it three times that night! I was 15 years old and I knew this was for me!) I followed your solo music as well, and was amazed at the direction your solo music took. SONGS FOR A TAILOR and HOW'S TRICKS are still favorites! I was crazy about your music with Leslie West, and was floored beyond words with your work on Gary Moore's solo albums. Then, the album with BBM!!!!! It was amazing to hear your music with Gary. (I find it hard to believe he is not more popular in the USA than he is. I wish he could tour here. He is my most inspiring guitarist when I want to get out of a rut and feel the passion in music. Phil Keaggy does the same for me as well.) I was really floored when I saw the live footage of BBM doing the CREAM set, and was really excited when I bought your 50th Birtday party CD. Great stuff! I am sorry I have gotten so long winded here, but I do appreciate being able to tell you how much I appreciate you and your music! Best wishes in your recovery and in the New Year! God Bless you and your family! Sincerely, Neal Williams USA

Dear Jack I am Polish, and in'60, '70 and '80 I live under Communist rule. Listen to foreign records was forbidden. So receiving Your records first with Graham Bond, next with Cream and so on, and finally your solo beautiful output was for us so deep experience like sex. Really! It helped me and my friends to survive this difficult, totally 'grey' without colors - time. Your music was, and is incredible. I love it. And I'm still looking for your records. Be well, and play for us. It helped, and it helping us ceaseless. Sincerely Jacek Ss. Szepan
