Jack, I played in a couple of bands nearly thirty years ago. I stopped performing, except for my own pleasure. I missed it terribly, and often wondered why I really ever stopped. I am 55 years old now and have taken up the old obsession again. I found that it was always there waiting for me. I am happier than I've ever been in my life. The music keeps me going. Mostly, I just wanted to say "Thank You" Jack. You, and the musicians like you give me the inspiration to get up off my bum and live life, and accept that music is one of the rarist beauties in life. I will play until I drop. May God bless you and keep you. Thank you for sharing your gift.

I've been a fan since Cream. I got your autograph after a show back in 1980 in Cambridge Ma., a few days after John Lenon was shot. I still follow your career and buy your records. I was sad to hear of your health problems but I am happy to hear you are on the mend. Come back to Boston. I'd love to see you in concert again. Paul Rapatano, devoted fan.

Dear Jack, Hope you are doing better. Just wanted to thank you for all the inspiration. You are the first bass player I became aware of. I an an upright & electric bassist as well as 'cello, tabla & some other things. I've been doing solo bass gig's inthis area and also worked for 10 years with Bern Nix (from Ornette Coleman's Prime Time) as well as others. Your drive, creativity and brilliance have inspired me over the years. Thanks Jack.

All the best. 2004s best music for me has been the discovery of the rereleases of your 70s stuff. Jet Set Jewell my favorite album of the year - darn shame they didn't release it at the time. Everyone I know who listens to it is impressed (Young M Jackson fan & new music guy in particular).

Thanks

Dear Mr. Bruce, I only recently read about your operation in Bass Player magazine. To say that I am a Huge Fan and respect your work, musicality, and your place in the music world would be a real understatement. I have been praying for you and am listening to your music as I write this. I am a guitarist, and my first band was in love with the music from Cream. We learned most of the Live songs. I have almost all of your solo recordings and want to wish you well. God Bless you!!!!! I hope that perform in Chicago (my home town) or Madison,WI sometime soon. Your wonderful voice and Bass playing on "Politician" are in the backround as I write this. On behalf of my brother Tom(Bassist) and my wife and I, all blessings to you Sir. Sincerely, John Vitale

Yo Jack! I was just surfing around looking for lyrics to one of your songs and found your web site. I'm sorry to hear about you needing surgery, but way happy you are recovering. You've always been one of my favorite musicians. Might have something to do with discovering Cream and LSD at the same time, I dunno. I was lucky enough to catch a few of your shows, ie JB & Friends at the Capitol Theater (waited all night for you guys, then managed to scoot up to the second row since most of the crowd was long gone), you and Ginger in NYC (the night Eric showed up for the first show and I caught the second one. I remember that night well because my friend bumped into Clapton in our rush to get to your show and almost knocked him in front of a taxi). Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Once you're back on your feet, PLEASE come play Austin TX. See you then!

When I was all of 6 years old, I saw my first ever concert in L.A. at the Forum. It was in October Of 1968. Cream and the original Deep Purple. WOW! That's when I really knew that music would have an enormous impact on my life. Thank You, Jack, for being a big part of that. And for all the great music you've been a part of. I am actually surprised to hear of your recent illness. I am wondering if it was just a genetic dispostition or if you came into contact with a natural opportunistic infection, ect.

It appears you are coming along well and I wish you all the best. You are a good mentor, talent, and dignified man. It would be nice and I feel the world will soon come to know of your true musical gifts. You haven't sold out mate.

You are a true musician.

Get well and tour the midwestern U.S. We would like to see you/

Dear Jack:

I won a Grammy because of you. Way back when, your cover of the old Chess stuff sparked my interest in the Blues. Growing up in Chicago gave me plenty of opportunities to pursue those interests, and I became friendly with Muddy Waters, who subsequently put my lyrics to three of his songs: "Unk in Funk," "Electric Man" and "Bus Driver." While none of them would rank, in my opinion, in his top 2500 or so recordings, it was pretty cool to hear my pals say that Chuck Berry, the Stones and Cream were recording Muddy's songs, and he was recording MINE. Bus Driver was fortuitously enough on the Columbia/BlueSky album "Hard Again," which wound up winning a Grammy in '77, so I got one as well. Your voice, your music and your live performances are among the great memories of my life, and I will forever be grateful for that. Among the most special of those memories was taking my son, now 17, to see you with Ringo's band at the Park West, I imagine 4 or 5 years ago. Another very special memory was your show at the small club, Biddy Mulligan's with Ginger on a cold Chicago night in December of 1989. You had another drummer for the first set, and as the crowd shouted for Ginger, you got pretty pissed off, which you had every right to be. I would've hated to have been that other drummer; it was a rude crowd, alright. But both sets were great. Anyway, these days I'm still writing songs, have been recorded by Joan Jett, Clarence Clemons and George Thorogood, and once penned a Levi's commercial recorded by John Lee Hooker. I'm also a screenwriter and a playwright. In 1990, I was asked to write an episode for a CBS-TV series, "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill," about a public defender. The story I created was about a blues singer, "Fish Fry Baby," who's song is ripped off by a punk band. In the trial, Rosie, representing the blues singer who has kidnapped the leader of the punk band to be ransomed for back royalties, gives a closing argument talking about the power of the blues. In her speech is a line "How many kids will ever know that before Cream recorded 'I'm So Glad,' Skip James had to write it?" Well Jack, I didn't know it back in '66 when I first heard Fresh Cream. But I learned quickly. Thanks again for introducing me to the founding fathers of rock n roll. I try every day to pass a little of that along.

I can't wait to see you again. Sure wish I'd seen BBM. I know you hear this stuff all the time, but "Next Dream," to me, ranks up there with the best Cream songs.

Finally - I have to ask you this - will "White Room" have new significance for you after a long hospital stay?

Rock on, Brave Ulysses.

Terry Abrahamson

My best wishes to you. I've been a fan since seeing Cream at Cobo Hall in Detroit in 1968. Though your solo albums, Lifetime, West Bruce and Laing..etc I've showed my support in the best possible way, by spending my money on your recordings. I've been playing the bass since seeing you live all those years ago. I'll turn 52 at the end of June and I'm still jammin' thanks to you and the inspiration you have given me.

Jack, Happy to hear that you are well and progressing back towards good health. The same year you went through your ordeal marked the 20th anniversary of the death of your friend Felix Pappalardi. I hope that when you're well enough to go back out on the road, and I trust that you will pass through Boston, that you might perform so of Felix's music (with or without a Jack Bruce twist). I have always enjoyed your bands of "FRIENDS" in the past and look forward, with great anticipation, to hearing you and them again. I am glad that your on the mend and wish you good healthfor the future. Your music, along with Felix's, has always been a source of happiness and has delivered me through difficult times in my life. So I thank you for that. Take care of yourself and be well. I look forward to seeing and hearing you again in the near future.

my god, what could i say to mr.jack bruce. i used to mic my stereo speakers and run all the live cream records through my kustom amp and jam with them. like countless others, i'm indebted to you - for teaching me how to play the bass - and for having such high musical standards - really showing me the transcendant beauty and empowerment that is, after all the changes, rhythms, meters, and melody, the essence of music. i've always wished that i could hear you in person and i look forward to having that opportunity. although i don't know you personally, your music over the years has been a light upon the path that each of us walks and i wish you a belated very happy 61st. peace, strength, happiness - bob lorick - 49 year old music major at the university of south carolina school of music - take care of yourself - thank you

If good wishes count for anything, you should be flying. Hope you make it this way soon.

Dear Jack, It's a bit late too congratulate you with your 61st birthday, so may I have the honour to be the first to wish you a splendid 62th one? I am so delighted to hear your latest reaction on this excellent site. But please be more specific about the exciting event that is waiting for us next year...Please don't tell us that the thing we have been waiting for for 35 years is happening at last... For what it's worth: I saw Eric performing at the RAH a few weeks ago, and he is in abetter shape than ever. What disappointed me however was the lacklustre prformance of the band (apart from Billy Preston). Time to 'clean the place up' again. Jack, you're being you gave my life so much more colour and real happiness, that I can't even begin to explain the enormity of it. We (my brother and several friends) saw nearly ALL the concerts you gave in our country and wish you ALL THE BEST!

Dear Jack: I hope You are in good spirits, and You are at least feeling well enough to get around.I do not have cancer, but My Mom has had Hodgkin's Lymphoma since 1985,on and off.She had a bone marrow transplant in 1996 from her own marrow,(stem cells which had no cancer in them bones). She had cancer 4 times on and off,so don't give in.Just wanna give You some incentive. Anyway, the reason I am writing to You telling You this is to give You some hope.I am only a drummer,(who is'nt these days),and I am 32 years old.I had the immense privelege of seeing You and Ginger Baker at the 23rd East Cabaret in Philadelphia,Pa,U.S.A.I even got both of Your autographs,You were both wonderful.I will pray for You to get better. All I know is when I seen You onstage with Ginger and the guy who was apparently filling Clapton's spot, the light hit Your arm and all I seen was trackmarks.I hope I am wrong, because My dad OD'D on Heroin and I don't want to see You go.I heard Ginger beat it after 21 years,so can't He help You out any?Or do You two really hate each other? It's none of My business, really, but I will ask God to help You through this.I'm not a real religious person, but I will ask anyway. You're a gifted musician, and We need guys like You around. You're a true pioneer.Today's music sucks,Jack!!! If You hear from Leslie West, please tell him I said hello. He's real cool.A down to Earth guy.Give My regards to Ginger as well.I was thinking, why don't You write a book of some memoirs, and Your days as an early musician till now? Hi Jack!

I'm of your generation, a real child of the 60's. I saw you way back then with so many of the bands you were with, but my lasting memory is seeing Cream at the University of Birmingham, I would guess in or around 1966. That was a defining moment in my life, and I don't mean to sound pretentious by saying that. In my own modest way I've tried to perform the blues, and it's always been your voice and style that's been my inspiration. Until tonight I never knew you'd been ill, and I wish you all the very best for a speedy recovery. You take good care, you hear?

Jack, Glad to hear you doing better. I have a friend who is on the liver transplant list at Duke but he has problems with his portal vein. I hope he is fortunate like you. I was riding my Harley at the beach listening to Deserted Cities of the Heart. That shit still holds up. My first album was Wheels of Fire in the 60s. I saw you play in the 70s in New York with Clem Clemson on guitar and if I remember right Billy Cobham on drums. You have always been my favorite bass player and your vocals cannot be duplicated. Get well and try to talk Eric and Ginger into a reunion. If that dont work keep making music - More Jack than God is cool. Doug Corrigan age 49

Glad to see you are on the mend. Songs from a tailor was a great favourite of mine and you were the cream of the Cream. Live long and prosper.

A belated Happy Birthday, Jack. Looks like our prayers worked. You're on your way to a great recovery. Looking forward to your next recording project. Hope you can make it back to Summerfest in Milwaukee sometime soon. Stay healthy.
