Hi, does anyone know if the recording "Almost Cream" is still available? I saw a listing of it on the netherlands Jack Bruce fan site. It was recorded at the bottom line in NYC in 1989. I was at that show and would like to hear it again.

Glad this place exist! Jack Bruce music has always, since I've been 15 (I'm 40) rythms my life. Every moment of it is linked to a tune... It goes perfectly with Peter Brown's lyrics. Keep on doing good melodies Jack, and thank you for what you've written.

A CREAM reunion might be just a futile attempt at recreating an incredible musical event that ultimately cannot be recreated with the same intensity, creativeness or flair. Each member has gone their own way and musical direction. Bruce is into jazz, Clapton came into commercial appeal with the masses and Baker went way back into fundamentals of ancient drumming. The music was an intense influence for me personally because at that time I was just starting my own drumming career and Baker was untuchable to try to immitate, but was allways a goal. Leave Cream alone in tape and records and in its original version and it will allways be THE BEST ! ! ! jimmy

As an extremely troubled youth, my mooring was what you gave to me on vinyl so many years ago. Discovering your site (and quite by accident I might add) is for me like finding an old friend. I am glad to see you are still "pickin"! I'm 45 now and my direction in music which began in the Blues has come to Bluegrass and playing the Dobro. Jack, you taught me (along with Eric and Ginger) how to jam out a tune. That true music isn't on paper, nor is it on the fretboard...it's deep in the gut! Oh, how well you pull it out and express it! I'm sure Mozart, Stravinsky, and others of this echelon understood this well as their pinhead conservative critics were left only to scratch their tops in wonder. Jack, may God richly bless you! <kdw>

Dear Mr. Araujo: Once again, an excellent job. Thanks. My only quibble is that the bio didn't mention the '89-'90 tour in support of A Question of Time. In Dallas he did an excellent set of solo material going all the way back to Songs for a Tailor with Blues Saraceno, Bernie Worrell, Gary Cooper, and a drummer I unfortunately can't remember and then the second set started with NSU and recreated a full Cream show with Mr. Baker. For the encore, Baker said, "Here's one he wrote on the airplane from Houston today and it features on vocals--me:Bum-bum-bum-ba-bum-bum-I feel free. . ." Quite a night and probably the closest I'll ever get to the real thing, since it was $21 in a converted movie theater (curiously only 2/3 full!) and any tour with all three of them would be in football stadiums and tickets would be at cocaine dealer prices. (Traffic got $85. Nice guys, but not Cream and at least one member dead. And don't start me talking about those Eagles! Grr!) Once again, thanks. All my best,
Anaax

1) Congratulations on your "Approved" grand web-site. Certainly all your hard work and insight paid off, Derek. You earned it.
2) Is there a place we, the humble masses could submit Photos of JB , to be shared...rare ones or those that have not been distributed in great amounts (keep in mind we are not webmasters...something we could just scan and e-mail to you?
3) Is it possible someday in the future to interact with Jack Bruce...the Black radio show was a little confusing since we thought he would be a guest... I would be happy, just to know that Jack would be connected to read, questions and comments and that depending on his take on something...could reply or respond, He mentioned in one DIARY note, that he did appreciate comments and read every one...although it was ambiguous where, and how this was done.
4) I guess it took a Harvard guy to do such a great site...and your vision was 80% of it...again congrats on your achievement, hard work and good taste.

The first time I heard Fresh Cream I was hooked. I am a drummer and thought Jack Bruce was the most creative bassist I had ever heard.Melodically ,rhymically, and also in his writing(listen to Harmony Row!!) I have everything he has released, and played on(I think). I have only seen him live once, in Los Angeles, with Ginger Baker. He is the best. Thanx Jack.

Mr. B I grew up in Santa Cruz Ca. , 70 miles south of San Francisco and was able to see you every time you played with Cream ( most times three or four nights in a row ) and my passion turned towards your early brand of fusion that I believe you are in no small way responsible for .As a young stand up player I was amazed by your style , tone and counterpart . You truly opened many doors for us . When you first started your Jack Bruce & Friends with Larry Corryell ,Mitch Mitchell and that great keybrd. player ( whose name escapes me ) I was also there leaning on the stage every night . I would love to find some recordings of that band . Do they exsist? The way the four of you stretched time ... Many years later I was able to open for you but unable to talk with you and ask you about that group .Anyway thanks for opening the doors . jerry

This is my first time back at the site for the new year. Thanks to all the Australian JB fans who responded to my last entry. I have now picked up the BBC sessions and the Old Grey Whistle Test CDs and love them. To Gereon Muckelmann, I have a book of sheet music of Jack's called "Jack Bruce at His Best". I haven't looked at it for a while but from memory it has most, if not all of "Songs for A Tailor" and "Harmony Row" plus "Hcck Blues". "Theme..." is included in the book. Pardon my ignorance but I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "lead sheet". If it is the sheet music you're after send me an e-mail and I will do my best to scan it and send it to you (you can pay Jack the royalties).
One final point - Billy Cobham is playing at the Basement in Sydney next week (15, 16 and 17 Feb I think). I intend to go on the Wednesday night. If there are any Sydney JB fans who are also going lets get into e-mail contact and arrange to meet and have a few drinks and yarns. Who knows, we might get up enough courage to ask Billy to contact Jack and tell him what a great place Sydney is, and what a terrific venue the Basement would be for Jack to perform at.
Keep up the good work Derek.

As a bass player, I have been following Jack Bruce since the late sixties, and is on of my main influences. The tour dates schedules do not list any dates the Tony Williams Lifetime played in the United States with Jack Bruce. I saw Jack play with the band I think in late April or May of 1970. They played two nights at the Palladium in Birmingham Michigan. It was quite an amazing performance, an intense musical experience, especially from Larry Young. Someone should know the remaining tour dates from that time. It's amazing to know the band worked as much as it did later that year. Amazing too how little recordings of this group are available! I'm hoping JB reads this while on tour with Ringo and convinces him to push the envelope. While I love Ringo's hits, his catalog contains some great songs that he never performs live. I'm gonna see JB and Ringo in San Diego on March 14 and 15 and in Los Angeles on March 18. Hey Jack, talk Ringo into doing a set containing the following songs: Have You Seen My Baby, Oh My My, and Devil Woman (from Ringo); Oo-wee, All By Myself, and Only You (from Goodnight Vienna); You Don't Know Me At All (from Rotogravure); Private Property, Attention, and Back Off Boogaloo (from Stop and Smell the Roses); Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go (Time Take Time); and Mindfield, King of Broken Hearts, and Puppet (from Vertical Man). Yeah, I know some of the main stream fans might not enjoy these numbers as much as Photograph or You're Sixteen, but how about us die hards? Don't we deserve something? As for you Jack, how about As You Said or He the Richmond for your solo number? I saw you do a solo acoustic version of As You Said at the Bottom Line in NYC in, I think, 1989 that sent chills up my spine. Come on, lets have some fun. Push the envelope.

Dear Jack & Ringo fans: I spoke to a friend who saw both Jack/Ringo shows at the Beacon Theater in New York City. He is the biggest Beatle fan I know, but he said Jack absolutely stole the show. Like me (see my email of 2/15/99) he was a little disappointed with Ringo's set selection. The set list for both shows was: Ringo: It Don't Come Easy and Act Naturally; Gary Brooker: The Devil Came From Kansas; Todd Rungren: I Saw the Light; Jack: Sunshine of Your Love; Simon Kirk: Shooting Star; Ringo: Boys, Love Me Do and Yellow Submarine; Jack: Theme From An Imaginary Western (with JB on piano backed by the band); Gary Brooker: Salty Dog; Jam before the break; Ringo: I'm the Greatest, No No Song and Back Off Boogaloo; Jack: I Feel Free; Simon Kirk: Alright Now; Ringo: I Wanna be Your Man; Todd Rungren: Bang the Drum; Jack: White Room; Gary Brooker: Whiter Shade of Pale; Ringo: Photograph, You're Sixteen and A Little Help from My Friends. Great show. Forgive me for complaining, but this great show would have been over the top if Ringo did Devil Woman, Oo Wee, Minefield, and King of Broken Hearts instead of Boys, Yellow Submarine, No No Song, and I Wanna be Your Man. How good would that have been? If anyone else has seen a show, why not share your thoughts and impressions? Hey Jack, I really can't wait to see ya. Thanks for the music.

If you see this Jack I just want you to know that I saw you in 1989 With Ginger, and it still is the greatest live show I've ever seen. I got to the show an hour before the start and foud my spot by looking under the curtain and seeing where you had your bass rig. FRONT ROW & Front Jack! It was an experience I'll never forget, especially when Ginger threw his plastic cup into the audience right before "Toad" and I caught it! Sure wish I could have caught your harp after "Sitting on Top of the World"
May God bless and keep you always Mr Bruce!

My wife and myself EXPERIENCED "The SHOW of all SHOWS" last night at Westbury Music Fair in Long Island, New York. You and the Boys are true musicians and entertainers. The wife and myself and just about everyone else loved it when you were playing the song Sunshine of your Love and You started walking over to us and playing bass sat right down in a seat one isle over and eight rows down from us. You had a BIG SMILE on your face. I'll never froget that. One more time did I see you and The ALL-STARR Band in 1997 Jones Beach, New York. That show was great especially with Peter Frampton. If I make a suggestion, If you evey start a band put Frampton as your lead man you get along beautifully(musicality). Forget Clapton. I FEEL FREE after last night. Peace Brother.

I just saw Jack Bruce and His band yesterday. I was wearing a home made Disraeli Gears shirt and I was screaming my head off. I even think Jack Bruce whispered thank you into the microphone while I was screaming, "I love you, Jack!" I got there 15 minutes late, but arrived right before Rundgren introduced Jack Bruce and they played "Sunshine". I rushed to the front right before the solo started on "White Room". I was a mere 15 feet away from the great God of all bassists. The other tune he sang lead on was "I Feel Free". Thank you so much Jack, I'll never forget that experience for as long as I live.

Jack was absolutely fantastic (nothing new) at Westbury last night (wednesday). I was in row 6 with my eyes glued on my idol. After the show I heard everyone talking about how great Jack is. It's too bad we didn't hear Theme...either show at Westbury. Why do some people think it's Mountains song or Pappalardi's song? I'll never understand. Jack, you will always be my favorite musician. You are the greatest! The greatest voice and the greatest bass belong to the same man: the great Jack Bruce!

Kudos! There is no question that Jack stole the show night at the Westbury music fair. Having never taken a bass lesson in my life (and have successfully been in the music biz for 25 years) Jack has been one of my main influences. I've been thrown out of more bands for having my EB-3 and playing with that upfront lead bass sound......But I take that as an extreme compliment. Jack has certainly been one of the most under-rated bassists and vocalists of our time....but thanks to this web-site, I can see that he has a loyal following. Coming up on 56 years of age...he certainly still sounds like the JACK BRUCE I saw on the last CREAM TOUR at Madison Square Garden many moons ago. Let's hope he gets his own band and tour together real soon!

I saw Bruce with the Golden Palominos at the Metro ('85?). He did Silver Bullet, as well as a great job on two favorites..Deserted Cities and Weird of Hermiston. During the set he paid tribute to the "Greatest song writer in the universe" ... then mentioned a name (not Pete Brown) that I had never heard of before. I believe it started with an M. Who is this songwriter? Anyone Jack thinks is the best, given the the calibre of the Bruce/Brown combo , I must know about. Anyone know?

Mr. Bruce, you are an inspiration. I am a 32 year-old bassist, song writer. I discovered Cream when I was 13. My first band with my friends in high school was named "Toad". We played Cream covers and blew a hole in the sky at the faculty picnic. It was a blast. "Songs for a Tailor" is still one of my all-time favorites. I saw you and your band(with Ginger Baker) in Atlanta in 1990. What a show. I brought an album cover hoping to get a signiture, but I never got close enough. I know you're busy. Enjoy the rest of your "Ringo Tour". I know you're probably sick of hearing this, but a Cream reunion would be great. Thanks for the music. Sincerly, Scott

Dear Friends, This one is for Derek . He says he did not understand the need for bass players until he heard Jack . O.K. Without bassplayers there would be no Rhythm and Blues , and prescious little Jazz . Bass players and drummers are the life blood of music , particulaly , Black music , and I don't mean rap . That is not music . While Mr . Bruce's music is not Black , he has been very influenced by Black musicians . Willie Dixon , ( A Bass Player ) amongst them. Jack is arguably the best Bass player on the planet , but good funky playing is still the best way to get people to dance and feel some emotion . The Rolling Stones are a very good example . Simple music that makes you move . Bill Wyman's bass intro on " Every Body Needs Some Body To Love " can still get me on my feet , and it was recorded in 1964 !! Jack's intro to " Badge " can send me into raptures . Listen to BASS . Paul .

Hello, Jack Bruce! Last night I drove up from San Jose to Berkeley to hear you and the rest of Ringo Starr's All-Star Band. It was a wonderful show. What a great idea to have people from different bands come together and play their hit songs. Say thanks to Ringo for me for putting it all together. You and Todd Rundgren really blended together well on "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room". I have been wanting to see you in person for 30 years, and last night I finally got the opportunity. Great show, and keep on rockin'!!!

Thanks for the years. I played "Wheels of Fire" to death, but always liked the odd songs. One of my favorites Cream songs is "What a Bringdown". To this day, 2 of my favorite albums are "Songs for a Tailor" and "Harmony Row". Wish I had got "How's Tricks" I'm a little out of touch these days, but I still remember standing 10 feet off the front of the stage for West, Bruce and Laing in Chicago (some 9 months before the record ever appeared!). I stared in amazement while Jack did figure-eights with one finger and ALL THIS SOUND CAME OUT! I wanted to go home and throw rocks at my bass. Funny, after 25 years, a friend of mine who was there with me sent me a surprise - 2 CD's of that night. He had snuck in a cheap cassette recorder and taped it. The quality is awful, but it sure brought back memories.

I've met Jack two time's-unbelievable! He autographed a wall poster I have had since the tenth grade(1971)! He stared at the poster then looked at me and proclaimed "I've still got that shirt!). This was in 1988 with Blues and Anton. My best friend from high school got me backstage at that show and also the next time Jack came around with Ginger. Both signed all the stuff we had from albumn covers, cd jackets and pictures! I also have alot of Bruce and Cream live materials and would like to swap or buy any others. Still need Automatic!

I liked A Question of Time, which I purchased in the fall of 1990 when I returned to England to do graduate work (I had been Rhodes Scholar in England and saw this as an opportunity to get more into my musical as well as my scholarly interests) and was both impressed by its over-all quality---it has the balance and depth I had come to expect from Jack Bruce---and intrigued by some of the lyrics, liner notes and dedications.
I am passionate--some would say obsessive--about both my favourite author, Malcolm Lowry, and my favourite musician, Jimi Hendrix. I take it that Jack shares this dual interest, along with many others, and I wonder if he senses any affinity between their works and with them. I used to imagine a psychadelic sketches of Spain (or Mexico) with Hendrix and Gil Evans--starting perhaps with that outrageous electric flamenco on Captain Coconut, and leading God knows where.
If the summer jazz festival circuit or All-Starr band tour should take Jack to Vancouver, he might want to visit the Lowry Collection at the University of B.C., the Malcolm Lowry Room where Lowry did most of his writing of the novel. Also read both volumes of his selected letters.
I saw jack with Blues Saraceno in Poland about five years ago, which was great.
Cheers

Great web page, but then show me a better bass player, or for that matter, songwriter. It's amazing what Jack could do with Pete Brown's lyrics. Although I knew of Cream, I really got into Jack's music with his post-Cream solo albums. I am not a musician, but there is no mistaking those bass lines, and incredible imagination with his songs, which still sound fresh today, and I simply never get tired of hearing. In fact, I don't know of anyone over the years that I had listen to his records who wasn't impressed and enjoyed them. I see where some people were looking for a copy of AUTOMATIC, which I do have on vinyl and would be willing to make a copy on cass. I also have some boots if anyone interested in trading. Does anyone know if there are any plans to release the second Jack Bruce Band album, Jet Set Jewel? All we got was a taste of it on the WILLPOWER compilation. Regards..

Hi -- This is, first, to thank you for all the years and all the amazing music. Bought *Songs for a Tailor* not long after it was released in the States, and since then I've been an unabashed fan. My trade is the writing of poems, and your work has taught me important lessons about the balance of emotion and intellect in art. I still love *Harmony Row* and in particular "Folk Song" as much as ever, and there've been more high points since then that I should try listing here. I even heard the Bruce/Bley band on radio once (too many years ago now), so *Live on the Old Grey Whistle Test* is a special treat. I really hope there might be more from that band. Many Thanks, from a long-time listener. I'll keep coming back to this Web site to stay up to date. Many Blessings!

Jack Bruce, in my opinion, plays and sings so great, his performances always sound inspired! Some musicians play it safe, note for note...But Jack? He's always fresh improvisation...Now that takes a lot of courage...It's hard to always land on your feet when you take musical chances... I would like to see Jack jamming with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Stewart Copeland on drums, and John Paul Jones on keyboard...Now that would be a strange brew indeed... In conclusion, I think Jack Bruce is the best!!!

I have been a fan since I heard I feel free on a juke box in Jamaica Inn in July 1967 at the age of 16. I have seen him at Chelsea colloege on the same bill as America and Pete Brown and Piblokto! for £1 in 1971! also at Cologne ( die Seche?). I met him nad had a chat after the play "The tooth of crime" and although he probably could have done without my company he could not have been kinder. A true gentleman. My favourite song - which ever I am listening to but if pushed "Bird alone". v

Jack Bruce. The man is a living musical legend. The concept of jamming or improvisation in rock music was not a reality before Jack. The most amazing aspect of Jack's talent is his ability to combine superior musical theory and technique with a flawless singing voice. No one musician that I've heard has quite that same balance of abilities.

I just recently started listening to CREAM and now I must admit Mr. Bruce is one of my favorite bass players. I have been messing around with the electric bass for a while now, depressed because I couldn't slap and tap like the others. But after listening to Mr. Bruce (and Sir McCartney) I realize that the essence of bass playing is what you feel and not how you can slap or how fast you can play. I cannot believe how Mr. Bruce can make quarter notes sound so good.

I've been a Jack Bruce fan since Graham Bond days. Seen Cream 3 times, but Jack's solo stuff is definately the best music in the world. Regretably not many appearances in UK but in recent years saw him with Blues Saraceno and Gary Husband at Clapham and Leeds, the epic Monjack gig at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and last year at South Shields - Cream Revisited with Gary Moore and Gary Husband - brilliant. But I ache to see his best solo album stuff with an appropriate band!! Cheers Jack!!

The site is very informative and well laid-out. Jack is great. I listened to him in Cream as a youth and the genius of such tunes as "As You Said" only became apparent to me years later: after Stravinsky, Debussy, Mingus and other guys like that. Keep it up Jack!

Well I've just arrived at this site. Couldn't believe there is a web site devoted to Cream! As far as I know there has been no shrine made in their honour (apart from in the Roll Hall of Fame) but there should be. Nothing Eric Clapton has done before or since has reached the heady heights that he reached with Cream (and this is a sincere statement from a fan who lived in the days of Cream ,days which were like no other before or since). Cream's music inspired me to play, like so many others and it's good to see that the flame is kept burning.

Sorry I've already penned a note to the site but I just wanted to add one thing and that was about Derek's description of his meeting with Jack Bruce. I read it with understanding and sympathy at Derek's predicament. I unfortunately never got to meet my idol E.C. but I think if I had it would have gone much the way of Derk's meeting with Jack Bruce. This web site obviously has the right person running it. And it's an inspiration to past and present fans of Cream.
Cheers Laurence Cooper

Hi, this is my second try at getting a message through.
Loved Deryk's story about meeting Jack Bruce. Being a Cream fan since I first heard Fresh Cream and was totally blown away by it, and inspired by it too, I could really relate to Deryk's story. I always wanted to meet Eric Clapton but I could imagine it would have turned out the way Deryk described his meeting.
Anyway great to see that Cream continue to inspire people around the world. Crossroads was one of my biggest inspirations.

I've seen him live in concert twice and own many of his published works.
Mainly the thing which I would like to know is what it meant to be Jack Bruce -- what it meant to rise from nothing into Stardom ---- a kind of stardom that is and somehow seems uniuely different from the ordinary "living legends" we see see elsewhere. People like Barbra Striesand, Cher, they made millions and are famous yet it is Jacks contribution to the industry which seems uniquely different.
I don't think the real story of Jack Bruce has been published. Mainly its just snippets here and there of what life on the road was like, or what the nature of his working relationship was with Eric and Ginger and others.
I am only an ordinary person, average in every respect, so I do hold a fascination and admiration for people who demonstrate excellence in their profession and enjoy the taste of fame and wealth that is beyond my reach.
I would also like to know what kind of a person Mr. Bruce is. Does he have any hobbies like Gardening or ordinary things that other people do ?
I also notice that Mr. Bruces' tunes have a theme in them such as love being had and then lost, and losing ones' youth seems to be a common theme in his later music.
Has Jack had a hard life ? Is he a happy or unhappy person ?

Happy Birthday to Jack! Recently my wonderful wife bought me a copy of of "Eric Clapton & the Yardbirds featuring Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker" Imtrat GmbH of Landshut, imt 100.100 which says it is probably recorded in London in 1963 - the live recordings are although not credited to the great late Graham Bond are of the Graham Bond Organisation with a knockout version of "First time I met the blues " featuring John Symon Asher Bruce himself on vocals and co-vocals with Graham on " They call it Stormy Monday ". There are a number of Eric Clapton/Jimmy Page compositions as studio recordings one of which has one riff which resurfaced somewhat modified in "Sleepy time time"!
Eric is a wonderful musician but Jack progresses so much further!

"Johnny's music is universal in the truest sense of the term. It embraces the musics of this world and anticipates those yet to be discovered in the future. In a recent concert at Pauline Oliveros Foundation's Gallery at Deep Listening Space, Johnny's riveting performance transported the audience across time to places MTV can only dream about."

I think that it's really good that the 17 year old kids of now are getting into the music of the finest bass player since Bach. One thing puzzles me. Back in about 1972 I bought a JB albumn just after "Songs for a Tailor" (never did understand that title until today)but it was one I can find no reference to . It was a lot less commercial than SFAT. It had an all blue cover overlooking some old rooftops. Does anyone know what it was? Or was I dreaming?

A fan since Cream, with a particular fondness for a fellow-Scot, I remember a great gig at the Aberdeen Music Hall which is not in the database. It must have been around 1972 and the band was Jack, John Marshall and Chris Spedding. The show was a replacement for one cancelled due to illness. I wonder if that was a full tour that escaped the archivist's attention?
Looking forward to the next time,

Jack -- Just a note of thanks from a guy who, years ago as a young boy of seven and eight and nine, used to sit under the headphones back in my parents' house in Connecticut, and listen to Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire and wonder where the hell that powerful, marvelous music could possibly have come from. My one regret lately is that I didn't put any money down on Badge running in the Preakness, a 58 -1 shot who paid $18 to Show. Ha! You gotta bet with your gut. Another lesson learned. Anyhow, good luck, and thanks again for years and years of tremendous music.

No doubt, Jack is the GREATEST electric bassist and musician extraordinaire. Clapton is the problem in a Cream reunion disc and tour. Can anyone imagine the cash cow this would be? 100 mil plus for sure including tour and disc sales, not to mention misc. items. Clapton owes it to his fans that for the most part he developed during Cream. I have not purchased and don't intend to, any Clapton disc in years. He need to return to his roots. C'mon Eric, do what your fans want to see and hear, CREAM! One Last Serving. Comments? Let Me Know at my e mail address.

Sometime in 1987, I was an aspiring musician. I loved everything about music...especially the electric guitar and bass. I had heard about Jaco Pastorious through a guitar magazine, but I never listened to Weather Report... The years went by. I bought a couple of his albums... And I really liked what I heard... No shredding...but a lot of musicality...That was Jaco Solo... In late 1987 I went with a few of my best friends, to a Carlos Santana concert. After a few miles my piece of crap Nissan Sentra blew up...I told both of my drummer friends that it was ok if they went to the concert with my tickets... Little did I know they would meet a troubled Jaco at that concert...They did not exactly show any appreciation...He asked for a cold beer...{You, know drummers...no beer...they're too good for that...}
All I'm saying is that if I could go back in time and fix my piece of shit Nissan I could have saved the life of the best bass player ever>>.>%#

To Matt: That wonderful psychedelic SG that Eric had painted by the FOOL is now in the loving hands of Todd Rundgren who has preserved it wonderfully. There is an old Guitar Player magazine issue that was devoted to Clapton (Late 80's I think) that had a great picture of it with some nice modifications - the bigsby is gone and the tuners were replaced but it still looks unreal. I just got the DVD of Fresh Live Cream and the Revolution Club rehearsals are great although there is not enough footage of Eric when he is soloing!

I think an interesting Jack Bruce album would be an album of cello and voice music. I was listening to a friend practice the cello the other day-- Bach's Suite II for solo cello, BWV 1008--a beautiful minor piece. Anyway, the warm wooden tone filled the room. Later in the day I listened to Willpower, and I thought that an album with sparse songs similar to Folk Song and Can You Follow? would be beautiful if performed on voice and cello. Perhaps some piano could be added where necessary. I hope this idea sounds interesting as a future project. Thanks for the great music. Michael Ray

I would like to know why it is so hard to get Jack Bruce cd"s in the U.S.A. I can find some of theme but they want $34.95 plus shipping. $40.00 for a cd. I think that sucks! When I was a kid and CREAM lp's were abundent and at a good price. I just bought Wheels of Fire for $19.95 plus tax. Why are Jacks cd's so high? I bought Sitting on top of the world, Live at the Old Grey Wistle Test and I have alwayes wanted to do this for a lot less then I have been able to find. Is there anyplace that I can buy all of Jack's cd's without paying such prices? Please reply to <

Simply the best. I especially like the quieter numbers. Theme from Im. Western, Only playing games, etc.. And of course the blues numbers.
Jack once said that Bach was the Guv'nor when it comes to bass. Does he still think so. I am trying to learn some Bach for classical guitar and I think he was a genius.
Any thought about some acoustic material. What about an unplugged session ?

I'm a self-taught (super)drummer who learned by watching Cream and The Who in '68. Later, I soaked up jazz-rock with Mahavishnu, Miles, Weather Report, et al., and now I've come full circle. One of my life's ambitions is to play with Jack Bruce. I'd love to hear from other extraordinary musicians who are looking for soulmates, i.e., virtuosos who can back up the band AND take center stage.

Very annoyed at Shapiro´s nasty sleeve comments ( Bruce Live on OGWT cd) about Jack´s association with West and Laing. Surely this was a fruitful period for all three? To judge from the 3 official albums , plus bootlegs, there was a whole lot of good rock work going down. Seems Leslie and Corky aren´t highbrow jazz musicians, hence Harry the Weisenheimer´s intolerant stance! Bruce is forever linked to West/Laing/Pappalardi, like it or not. WBL moved mountains long before Sancious tried to! Wise up Harry!

Ever since, have been hooked to finding more great music and more information of such bands of the 60's. This page was an excellent source. I hope to find and learn as much as I can to keep me away from the propagandulus ninties.(is that a word?.. well it sounds cool anyway)

for duane tyler (e-mail reply doesn't work with his message):
"no answer" is a michael mantler album from the early '70s. words by samuel beckett. bruce sings it, carla bley plays keyboard & don cherry trumpet. very avant garde. if you liked michael mantler's "live" (which has a very shortened version of "no answer") you'll probably like it. but it definitely isn't for everyone, though bruce puts on an amazing vocal performance.

Is there anyone out there in NYC or environs that has the kind of ability, drive and taste that Ginger, Jack and Eric manifested? If so, contact me for drums. Re. Cream, I saw them at the ELECTRIC FACTORY in Philadelphia in the Spring of '68 (and later on their Farewell tour). I was jammed up against the Factory's stage, awed and inspired by what I saw and heard. Only Jimi, the Who, McLaughlin's original MahavOrch, Gil Evans Big Band, Miles and Milton Nascimento come close. I want to find people who can do that in their own way.

I was very fortunate to have seen Jack play with Kip Hanrahan in Macedonia in 1992.At the time,I was living in Belgrade and when I heard about the gig i got on to the bus and went down there to watch them play.I was numb for days.I really don`t know to say about him.I guess he is the reason why I keep playing music and I really want to thank him for those wonderful records and all the passion he has put into them.I hope you(Jack)read this and I also hope I will have the privilege to see you play in Brazil or wherever.Great page Derek.

jack, hopefully you'll read this. You are truly the greatest bassist in addition to one of the finest overall musicians today! no doubt about it! Clapton has never played with the same intensity as he did when you were standing to his left. you are truly a virtuoso. If possible I would love to know if you read this, maybe you can email me, to let me know?

Please can someone tell us when we will be able to see the tape of the 1993 Cream reunion at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I saw about 10 seconds of it years ago and was blown away by Jack's playing. Surely someone can bring this to market.

This is great. Keep on - kind regards, GL

I highly suggest the New Jack Bruce Album "Concert Classics, Volume 9". Released August 3, 1999. You can find it at CD Now. Just look under Jack Bruce. It's a great look back on the "I Always Wanted To Do This" Touring Band. A lot of Classics and improvising. Great CD.

Excellent site. I've been a Cream fan for nearly 30 years & their music is as good as ever. Yes, a reunion is a tantalising thought, but I doubt that it will come about-too much water under the bridge & all that. I don't know what NSU stands for either--the only clue is that in my school days my mates & I used to call NSU motorbikes & cars No Sodding Use-but I doubt that that's the real meaning! I think that BBM was a good CD in it's own right & there is a close resemblance to some of Cream's stuff. Hardly surprising really & Jack's unmistakeable style shows through. That's all for now, keep the comments coming!

Great Website, for a great musician. I've been a huge fan ever since "Fresh Cream" was released so many years ago. Cream was a great band! Maybe someday you three will get back together,(at least for an album.) West, Bruce and Laing was another powerhouse. That would be a great reunion as well. Whatever you do in the future Jack, your fans will follow.

Great site!
I saw Jack play with West, Bruce & Lang in '72. It was great.
I hope the All-Starr band makes it to the US with its latest line-up. I've seen them play (in earlier incarnations) and the show is always fun.
Now the big question...when will Harmony Row be available on CD? My records are sooooo scratched from being played.
Best wishes to everyone,

Dear Derek There is huge bullshit campaign in Europe against bootlegs saying that it is not nice to sell recordings with any royalty for the author and intermediaries. In fact what I consider bootleg market has never been of commercial approach and rather kept in low volume for hard core fans. Why for example live recordings of Blind Faith and Cream are still not released (apart from Cream vol 1-2) and same for Jack Bruce many concerts. I am not talking about counterfeiting original cd releases which is crime, but rather keeping alive in memory great moments that are not released because of commercial reasons. I write it because I want to inform you that bootleging is now shifted to Japan and you can find geat cd at www.cyberseekers.com Kind regards Gregory

I've been an impressed listener of yours since my cousin left his new Fresh Cream album at my house way back when. I went to see you once in the 70's at the Golden Bear in Southern California but you couldn't perform due to illness. Luckily I saw you with Billy Cobham a year or so later in Long Beach.I sure hope you get out this way. Best wishes. Until Such Time. ms

Hi, Jack! This is Mark Saxon, the GM at Renaissance Records. You spoke to John last week, and asked for copies of the live CD we put out. You said you'd fax us your info of where to send them, but we never received it. Please re-fax your shipping info, or e-mail it to me at my e-mail address....OR....I expect to be in London from Sept.27-29th. If you're in the area, maybe we can meet up. I could bring a bunch of the CD's, and maybe we could discuss some other business. We're big fans of your music, and with our distribution going through Polygram/Ryko (Universal), we might be able to license a few of your solo things for US distribution. When you send me your info, let me know if you'll be around! If you need further info, call me at Renaissance... (615) 661-6598. Bye for now!

Well we got our tickets to see Jack in March, 2000. I can't believe my dream in life is going to come true. It's disappointing though, to see Jack's name last on the newspaper ad and to see him listed on the net as the voice of Cream. It just goes to show - the better you are the less credit you get. Hello! I just write to say I enjoy this site very much every time I enter here. Although I am young and I do not belong to the Cream generation, I love Jack Bruce`s music (both when he played with Cream and his solo career music). And the All Starr Band`s concert in Moscow was really worth seeing! I was there and this is the best experience I have ever had. Certainly JB was the best there. I would like to know JB`s attitude to his Rusian fans. Could he write his opinion on this site? I would be so thankful to him! Affectionately yours, dear Mr. Bruce,

If the Jack Bruce biography has been called off by Miller Freeman Books, why doesn't Jack release his own autobiography, comprising information and photos from this web site. There's tons of great stuff in Jack's Diary, Equipment, Biography, Discography and photos from his gallery. More recent photos and info from his diary could be added at the end - just before publishing. I'd buy two copies - one for the home and one for when I'm at work, Why not? - Marc.

I have been a Cream fan since June 1966 when the band was made up, and a better group has not appeared after 1968. Jack Bruce was the spirit and heart of Cream, and I really adore his bass-playing. I wish to see then together again. Do You think it´s possible ?

Great to hear of the Australian tour in early 2000. Hope there is a chance to hear a smaller band in a club venue. Sydney is a hot jazz city. Please post Australian dates on the website. Last and only concert I attended was New Victoria, London on 15 April, 1977 - a top band!

Enjoyed the site, very much. I'm very curious about your classical compositions on cello. Strickly drinking decaf these days. I played in Las Vegas very recently, and a guy was walking through the casino with the word "change" on the front and back of his shirt. Was this a command or a service? Write back whenever you want. Bye-bye. Love and Peace Glen

I just want to thank you Jack for being a very big influence on my playing! I now play with blues guitarist Debbie Davies (she used to tour with the late Albert Collins, and was once with Maggie Mayall & The Cadillacs), having a blast touring all over the world! I used to sit in front of the stereo figuring out every note and nuance from every Cream song. Especially the live volumes where you could pan the balance control to hear just your bass. The way you sang and played simultaneously on the live version of the song "Spoonful" especially blew my mind!! I would love to find out what techniques, if any, you've used to improve your singing and playing simultaneously? I've been playing bass for over 20 years now and am quite accomplished, but still have some difficulty with this! I bet you'll say "practice makes perfect"! Any other advise on this perhaps? BASSically yours, Alan J. Hager (Debbie Davies Band)

I didn't know whether it's a result of OZ Brucer's lobbying for Jack to tour or a straight out management decision but it's going to be great to see Jack perform in the great southern land of Australia,I hope there is some latitude in the show for Jack to do a good few numbers.I know most people remember Jack for his Cream efforts but there a lot of fans who would like to hear more than Sunshine of Your Love,White Room or I Feel Free.Ausralian audiences (at gigs like this )love to rock so what about something maybe a little more obscure but non the less raunchy like WB&L "The Doctor" or "Timeslip" from "Out of the Storm" with that unforgetable/dynamic bass solo ! Either way it's going to be good to see you Jack ! I"m going to the Newcastle concert and the Sydney concert, see the rest of you Brucers there ,enjoy the moment ! Cheers Dennis

Jack....Not sure if you will get this or a buffer.....just wanted to tell you how much your music; not just from Cream; but everything you have done over the years has meant to me. When Cream was together...I was always in awh of your fantastic 'lead bass' playing. you were always the lead guitar player in that band. And the Bruce / Brown songs will allways be tne best. You will allways be the driving force behind Cream and I'm on my 7th copy of Wheels of Fire. I could go to my grave a happy man with a signed copy of Wheels of Fire. It would never be opened.

Jack Bruce is my all-time favorite musician. Harmony Row is the best album of the 70's. Best concert I ever saw was Jack with Billy Cobham, David Sanchez, and Clem Clemson in DC in 1981. Jack is the best, but a Cream reunion would be a great way to start Y2K.

of the people who are remembered from cream jack bruce is the one with the most enduring talent and the one who was prepared to explore his music. EC has become a crooner (despite enough life trauma & tragedy to sing the blues more than many) comfortable on his millions. JB if he has ever made his millions would be sitting on them like good scotsman. as for poor old Ginger, well it happens to the best of us but "horses and trees" was absolutely powerful. Jack has endured and persisted thru real talent. I am a long timefan but have this year learned to play trumpet so my playlist has become centered but Monkjack is a very beautiful set of songs. Keep going Mr Bruce and leave the rocknroll alone(this silly giants of rock tour whatever it is callled is a wank like a johnny farnham thing) do your real stuff esp with minimal instrumentation like Monkjack. An album of Bass guitar and Cello long pieces with occasional drifting in and out vocals and highlight bars of trumpet/flugel/piccolo trumpet would make my middle age worth living. By crikey that is such a good idea I may try to get closer to Mr Bruce and urge him strongly. He doesn't need to waste his timeon rock. Im sure he has a local pub to play in if he has to thrash. Kind Regards to all listeners of inspired composers and musicians from bwtrumptr brisbane aust.

Hey DT of San Diego, in answer to your question about Jack Bruce coming to Australia, he's coming here in Feb/Mar. 2000 with the British Rock Symphony, only they're calling it the Ultimate Rock Symphony for Australia. Some of the members of the line-up are JACK BRUCE, Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Peter Frampton, Paul Rogers, Gary Brooker and Billy Preston. They're supposed to be going from here to California in late March, but the line-up hasn't been announced. You might have seen JACK BRUCE with a lot of those guys in the Ringo band? Can't wait to see JB here. - Marc W.

Great to read in the Smiles & Grins newsletter that Jack Bruce is back in the studio working on a new CD. What a gutsy effort MonkJack was considering the man regarded as the world's finest bass player performed on piano and vocals, and was only accompanied by Bernie Worrell on organ. Then again, Jack wasn't afraid to completely revolutionize the way the bass was played in the 60's. Can't wait for March to roll around. - M&L.

Dear Jack
Can't belive this web site, I can't get off it and it's Christmas Eve, it's great.
Thank you for 40 years of great music. You have been a great inspiration in my life. I have followed you carrer since 1966. ALthough most want to speak about the Cream days (a they were great), it is what you done over the past 30 years which has influenced (Carla Bley, Mike Mantler, Larry Coryell, Kip, and the best of all "LIFETIME". Funny story - I met you at Unganos (night club on NYC's west side that closed a few weeks after you played it) in the early 70's. You were playing with Lifetime, and I was only 14 years old at the time, and under age to get in the club. I begged the owner to show you a rate picture I had with "Alexis Corner Group" - Blues Inc. with Alexis, Dick Heckstall Smith, Charlie Watts, C. Davis, etc.. and yourself at age 19 or so.
I finally convinced him to bring the picture to you for your autograph. Your responce was " I don't have that picture in my own library, can I meet the guy, maybe he as another". You invited me back stage, and I did have an extra and we talked for about 20 minutes, and never mentioned Cream. Jack, do have any idea what impact that had on a 14 year old boy's (musician) life, I think about that time you spent almost every day since, (I am now 43). What an experience!!, not to mention John McLauglin, Larry Young and Tony Williams being in the same room. Also, thanks to you I got to see "Lifetime" that night, you insisted with the owner to let me stay (inspite of being under age), you comment was "I was your greatest fan", and you were right.
To the greatest musician I know, thanks for everything. Hope to see you in New York soon. Got to go, it's Christmas Eve and the wife and kids can't figure out why I am the computer so long.

If anyone knows of a store in London I can get them, please e-mail. Also, Jack will Mike Mantler's "NO ANSWER" ever be put on CD. Can't play that one anymore either.
Thanks,
Tom

It's half an hour into the 21st Century here in Tweed Heads and we've had no problems with the Y2 bug except that when we press the return button it always repeats, always repeats, always repeats....
