Dear Jack Bruce, I am a Bassplayer for 34 years now. And I have a question: on one of my basses I use La Bella Flatwound Strings to play Motown Stuff - James Jamerson, and they sound great for old motown basslines, but by the way I practised Badge and I played it on this bass using the flatwounds. And it did not sound bad. My question: did you use flatwound strings during the recording, remember because of that long slides you played.... Hope to hear from you soon - visit my website myspace.com stevekbassplayer... All the best Stephen

Hello Jack, I am 58 and was a fan of Cream. Lately I became a dvd of Cream and I was astonished about what was happening. I didn't realize it was so reniewing and free. Now my youngest son Vincent (21)plays the bass in a rockband!!. He also studies autonome painter at art academy. He had a livertransplantation when he was 9 years old. Sometimes the puzzle fells into one. His band is called Skip Intro. A very new name in a new century. Please look on you tube or listen to their first EP Face it! I wish you all the best really. Have a nice time and keep on rocking and playing. You are a gifted human and that is always a miracle. Everyone who finds his destination is a miracle. I know it... Be blessed.. jan

I love the 'Seven Moons' album and really look forward to the current liaison with Robin Trower on stage continuing into some British dates too please. Having said that, and considering all the great guitarists Jack has worked with over the years - I really can't understand why he's never done a proper project with Jeff Beck. These two musicians, with their open minded musical philosophies, common early 60s London R&B beginnings, and similar jazz backgrounds were made for each other IMHO anyway. Also looking forward to the third in the latin-tinged trilogy to follow SITA and MJTG.

It's an honour to sign your guestbook here. Been a fan of yours since the Cream days, I think you are one of the greatest bass players and vocalists ever, for sure among those playing the blues. I read your diary and about the friends you've lost over the years. I saw Dick Heckstall-Smith at some blues festival in Frankfurt in the 1970s, with Pete York on the drums (can't remember what he deal was), there was never a saxophone player like him! Well, God bless you friend (don't know whether you believe in Jesus or not), keep going! Your aficionado, Ronald

Hello Jack and happy belated new year! I want to let you know that we just had our first gig of the new year and that we've been together as unofficial ambassadors performing the music of CREAM wheelsofire.com for 4 years now and we're more appreciative and excited than ever! Your fans always love your timeless music and we're thankful that they love and appreciate the way we perform it! It's always a rush and an out of body experience vocalizing with your style especially when performing White Room, Tales.., SWLABR, and Sleepy Time. Your talent goes much farther than the sum of CREAM, and you are truly the well-spring from which we flow, myself, Michael (guitar) and Conrad (Bass). Our jams have never been more psychedelically inspired (without the psychedelics of course ;-) and energetic. Please Please Please, The next time you visit the States, we would be honored to be your band (I know you've heard that a billion times). Health, happiness and peace to you and yours in 2009. I pledge my eternal gratefulness. Sincerest and warmest regards to you Jack Bruce! Peace, Peter

I was living in New Delhi, India in the late 60's when 'Sunshine of Your Love' came out. I was inpsired by Cream to become a lead rock guitarist. To this day I practice daily, totally addicted to playing rock music. Having to work full time and then in the evenings I never had to time to get married. Ironically, the preoccupation with the guitar has keep me out of trouble all these years by keeping me off the streets. Anyway, I was wondering if you have some high energy recordings with you playing blues harmonica. (Rollin' and Tumblin style). I find your harmonica solos are one of the most incredible sounds to bless the ears of mankind. You would probably find a significant resurgence in media interest if you would focus on some more blues harmonica sounds in the near future. (with you playing bass of course) (: Christopher Remington

I've been a fan for most of my life. Just bought the reissue of W,B&Ls'"Whatever Turns You on". I'm somewhat disappointed. I was hoping for a clear version of the LP I bought back in "73. What happened? I didn't expect a remixed version. Vocals and licks are not where they were. Anyway, I remain a loyal listener and drive to your "Into the Storm" album frequently. You will always be a favorite composer and musician of mine. Thanks for listening.

I READ SOMEWHERE THAT LESLIE WEAST AND CORKY LAING HAVE BEEN INSISTENTLY INVITING JACK BRUCE TO REJOIN THEM IN A NEW WB&L REUNION. WELL, THE 'NEW', SOFTER TONE OF THE WARWICK BASS, PLUS THE FACT THAT JACK IS PLAYING WITH AN OLD FIRE, WOULD RESULT IN FASCINATING NEW PLAYINGS OF POWERHOUSE SOD OR THE DOCTOR. IN THE MEANTIME, JACK WOULD PLAY AGAIN, LIVE, FASCINATING OLDIES, LIKE SPIRIT, BIRD ALONE, INTO THE STORM OR TIMESLIP. BUT HE WITH ROBIN TROWER AND GARY HUSBAND IS THE FOCAL POINT OF THE MOMENT. BEST, CARLOS BILL, BASS PLAYER, COMPOSER.

Like what Buzz said above, I have tix for Jack at Sellersville and would very much like to know who will be in his band for that show and what kind of musical meal we can expect to feast on. I am hoping for rock or blues over jazz but I'll take anything (if jazz then I'll be taking a nap during the show). I heard from a friend that the band will have Vernon Reid on guitar and Bernie Worrell on keyboards (2 major musical heavyweights there) but I have been unable to substantiate this anywhere and have no idea how he heard this (he says a friend told him who heard it from "the internet"). Any clues anyone???? Also, I know Jack is going to love this place (I don't know anyone who plays there that doesn't), and I hope after the gig he tells his buddy Robin Trower how great it is, so that Robin can try to get word to his booking agent to get HIM in there on his tour later this year....

Have always been a huge Bruce fan. Cream is (still!) my favorite band. I especially like the "Coffee Song", and "Wrapping Paper". There has never been another band like Cream. I'm now reading Dave Thompson's excellent book on the group (unfortunate subtitle). I am stunned that this collection of giants actually suffered bouts of "nerves" in their early performances! But, I'm sure London was (is) a serious place to put one's stamp on. Although the Cream reign was over before I was a concertgoer, I at least caught them at the Garden in 2005. My 20-year-old daughter, who's no fool, was screaming into my ear the entire show!! -KS www.inkrhythm.com

Jack: How can an old stoner like you keep on keeping on. I am now a(40 year old) who sacrificed some brain matter and hearing capacity playing the base in the eighties. Jack Bruce music books were purchased in that decade. Great licks! Now at fourty my only motivation is to own my immune system and find good avdvice from science experiments like you. If you have age reducing humor or some distastefull vitamin drink, this fan wants to know! Thanks Jack! Doug Burdette

Dear Jack Bruce, I hope this can get to Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker too, but I'll search for their contact information. First of all, I have been meaning to write years ago. This is a serious letter in a serious world. I will try to be as honest and frank as possible in hopes that you understand my point. I am addressing this to all band members new and old (and to any they have passed on). I grew up in the 60' and 70's (I am 56) where the environmental movement really kicked in and the general attitude was for peace, etc. The only thing is I believed all the artists and their lyrics and music that related to all the beliefs, attitudes, and values of the time. And it wasn't wrong, and any one of you that sang about it and believed it-----it wasn't wrong. I wonder where are all those hippies with all their beliefs and determination, etc. today for the world (the environment I guess I am mostly speaking of today) are for it is worse than it has ever been. They didn't follow through, but got the money and finished their degrees and forgot about the world and the change it still needs. That's funny. They are hypocrits and actors. And me, well, after getting involved with an "end-times" religious cult (that I didn't know it was) in the mid 70's, well, I spent a few years looking and believing for the Lord's return and the end of the world sort of thing. Not me at all, but that goes to show you what man can do even with the Bible----it can be used as a tool of the devil (that is a real paradox). The date was set for 1981 and the big war in the Middle East was to be. So, during this time I gave up my rock music and long hair and friends as I was taught to do so by these people and their interpretation of the Bible. But, I am not preaching so I will make this short (enough people have been turned off to the Bible because of what these groups had done to me). I am not a preacher and don't want to be. I am still dealing with "their demons" or whatever strange thing came upon me, because of such a group. It does have it's consequences. But, that was then when I was involved. Many prophecies, too. The reason I am writing today is I am trying to get back "to the Garden" and I mean literally. I have had enough of this world and it can tire you out. I write because you are and were a part of my life for better or for worse ( and it was for better). I only hope you still are the way you were back then in your thinking and beliefs about the world and the environment, etc. I mean I hope you are not just in it for the money and that you have not been acting all of these years and I believe you haven't. Sure, money would appeal to me also at such a young age, but I hope you have gotten more out of it as you have said and seem to appear to have. (All through these years) So, my friends I am writing as a loner now and falling back upon the only thing I know at this stage of the game. I hope that, what it is all about, (even with all the hippies gone and their negligence of their own promises to better the world) comes through for me at this time. But, I want you to know you blessed my life back then; you know life was better, simpler, and right. It still can be and I guess I am trying to say that now. So, for not only me, but for you also, don't ever give up in being yourselves and in what you really believe, which is for good (I believe). Oh, I could write a book about this myself, but I know you are busy enjoying the way it started for you in the beginning and you also had to go back to it. That is why I am writing. I must and need to go back to myself, which those early days represent. Some will say (even Christians) forget the past, etc. That is the problem; I have forgotten what life used to be and how I used to be and me; I have changed for the worse. And, that is not good. Not to be yourselve is the greatest tragedy. Thank you for listening and I do hope you read this. It may seem funny, but you know if someone needed to say this to me, I would listen and be there. I am glad to have known you and I feel and know that through those years and the music ( and not the drugs of which I haven't done for years and never will again), the good times, (when life was good and free and it wasn't hard to get it), etc.---I have known you. We all were ourselves for better or worse. Keep on going for there are many years ahead. And, I hope you are doing what you want in life and are well. It's just that all those hippies are the leaders today, etc. that run the world and it is worse. Ironic. Take care, messengers of freedom and life. And, by the way, back in the 90's I grew my hair back. Just know there are still people out here today that need you and all that ever was and has been through the years as I said should continue. No need to reply. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Todd DeFrank

Jack, They are tearing down the Spectrum in Philadelphia this summer. I saw you there during the '68 farewell tour it was the gig just before the penultimate gig in MSG in 68. Anywho, there are allot of acts that want to play there one more time for historic purposes -- Bruce Springsten I beleive is playing there again, this is truly history in the making the Spectrum had allot of great events including boxing, hockey, etc. Cream should play their again before it gets torn down. ft

Jack, I was looking forward to to seeing you in MD on April 7th, but the show has been postponed, officially due to "personal illness"(?!). I hope you are in good health and that we'll see you soon. My band GHz [Gigahertz] has just released a new CD that features three of your compositions and three other Cream songs, plus our own psychedelic blues originals and covers of songs by Hendrix and the Doors. I would love to mail you copies of the disk and to hear your impressions. The band web site is www.ghzband.com, and the disk is available on CDBaby and iTunes. In our live performances, our working repetoire features 20 Cream songs that we choose from, plus we play some of your post-Cream compositions such as Theme from an Imaginary Western and A Letter of Thanks. We are also constantly composing new material that we hope echoes these brilliant songs with a 21st century twist. I hope you are back on the road soon and the we don't need to wait too long for your rescheduled show. Best of health to you. John Z., the z of GHz.

Just rented the 2005 Cream Concert DVD. I'm keeping it! I thought it was a great performance by all. Music can keep you young, that was the best thing, to see you guys who have lived a full life still energized by music. The singing and bass playing were both right on, the spirit triumphs over all. For me, although I am a guitarist (for 38 years now) and a drummer (recent development!) Jack's voice is still the heart and soul of Cream. Really revolutionary music is always fresh, that goes for classical, jazz or rock. People will listen to Cream for centuries, it will always be powerful because it was inspired and often reached the level of collective genius, between the writing, singing and the three great intrumentalists who played off each other with so much taste and insight. Hope you will play somewhere in the northeastern US sometime soon. Your site mentions that your band can be hired. Perhaps my next birthday party? I wish! Thanks Jack, for everything!

Jack, I was planning to go see you at BB Kings tonight and was sorry to hear that you had to cancel, wish you a speedy recovery. I am sixty years old, and Cream was my favorite band and I can remember how bummed out I was when I found out they broke up. Your music is timeless and I have always said, man for man, Cream was the best band ever. I used to work for Columbia Records in the seventies,so I got to see the music business from different prospective. I also got to see one of your reunion shows at Madison Square Garden and I have to tell you it was one of the highlights of my life, I had goosebumps all night. I have always told everyone that I considered you at the top of the list for vocalists and bass players and I have always felt you did not always get the recognition that you so justly deserved. I am glad to see you are playing with Robin Trower again, he is one of my all time favorites and will look forward to getting the new album. Well, take care and hopefully you will make it to NYC again soon.

I just heard Jack's work on Charlie Mariano's disc "Helen 12 Trees" from 1976. I was blown away, this is some of the best sounding and beautiful "Jazz" I have ever heard! If you enjoy jazz or "fusion", do yourself a big favor and track this recording down. The disc itself is an import that has been carefully remastered and packaged in a really good looking heavy paper mini-album fold out. Jack' bass playing has never sounded better, and his collaboration with musicians such as Jan Hammer (Mahavishnu Orch.) and John Marshall (Soft Machine) take an exciting direction, taking us to places that "fusion" rarely visited. Enjoy!

Great website. I've been to Eric's and Ginger's but yours is by far the best. Great Cream photos. Several I hadn't seen before. Been enjoying your music since before Cream. Listened to "Songs for a Tailor" (2003 remastered CD version - I have the LP - bought when it came out in '69) the other day and it still sounds as fresh as it did 40 years ago (has it been that long?). That "Seven Moons" album with Robin is an amazing piece of work. Get well soon, Jack.

Dear Jack Bruce, I wish you a good, quick recovery and that you and your family can enjoy days and weeks of peace, poetry and health. Happiness and warm thoughts are good 'medicine' in many cases. By the way, your performances with Gary and Robin have proved to be far beyond many expectations; it is in the field of excellence, almost as in older days. We all hope live cd and dvd at least can be selling the sooner possible. All the very best wishes, Carlos Bill, bass, composition.

Greetings Jack, I just wanted to be sure I got my Happy 66th Birthday wish out to you in time this year. I was really hoping to wish you an early Happy Birthday greeting in person at Foxboro, MA at the April 8th ShowCase live show, but unfortunately your mini-USA tour cancelled. More so, I sure hope you're feeling better as your health is far more important to me than anything else. I'm certain the ALL your fans agree with me when I say we ALL hope you re-visit the idea of touring again, SOON, especially in or around the Boston, MA area. I was really looking forward to seeing you and Godfrey crank out all the Jack Bruce classics. Godfrey most definitely knows your music and provides an outstanding partner for you on stage. Although if I had my wish, I'd love to witness a West Bruce & Laing re-union tour more than anything, with a new WB&L CD release to follow. But honestly, I'd be happy to be able to see you play live at least one more time (more of course would be better). Have a GREAT 66th birthday celebration and best wishes again to you and your wonderful family. Allan p.s. Did Godfrey e-mail you the portrait tattoo I had done of you on my left thigh (cover pic from the Cities of the Heart Limited Edition CD)? If so, how did you like it? Peace

Curt Schwebs' comments above are worth repeating. 2009 is the 40th anniversary of the release of Jack's first solo album and what a corker it was. This is worth celebrating. There really should be some repackaged (Universal Deluxe?) version of "Songs For A Tailor" put out to commemorate things. However, given it has already had the upgrade with extra tracks & sleeve notes etc., it would be hard to think what to add ... but there must be something.

Hi! I and my wife Beth wish you a Happy Birthday! If you just think of EVERYTHING that your incredible skills on bass and songwriting and performances in general have reached...you'll sincerely come to the point where you'll see that not even a single note is necessary anymore to prove anything to the world, if you know what I mean. Just remember when Eric Clapton almost quit the music world in mid 70s...people said that "after Cream, if he so had decided, to stop playing...world could have been amazed by his feats, that would be enough"...well I guess it's a similar situation with you. Just keep on playing, recording, performing, but be sure that your innovation in melody, rhythm, harmony is quite done and obvious. Go ahead!!!!! A nice recovery, a happy day tomorrow and ever! Carlos Bill, bass, composition.

Just driven back after a day of being a community psychiatric nurse around and about the lovely breen lanes of Suffolk.Come home to my studio to work on some tunes and songs (myspace-richardhepburn)I had a good interrupted hour or so in the car and played some Jack Bruce ...I especially loved Shadows in the Air ..somehow resonated with the mood of the day and the place . Started thinking about how much I have loved your music ,voice ,words ...since at least the late sixties...had some influence too undoubtebly! . I got home , got on to your 'site'and discovered it is your birthday tomorrow. HUGE thanks for , and appreciation of your music Jack.I wish you the very best of health and hope you have a great birthday . Best regards, Richard

I was at messiaenfestival.com a couple of months back, and who should I see in a video interview but you! I was delighted, and was transported to my days as a 12 year old girl whose first popular music passion was Cream. At about that time I was also listening to Glenn Gould play Bach's Preludes and Fugues from the Well Tempered Clavier, and was struck by the contrapuntal feel of what you were doing with your vocals and bass. It seemed to me that there was the same strong feeling of melody rooted in harmony, and I loved the undertow of your bass lines as juxtaposed against the soaring quality of your vocals. God? Well, Dionysus, certainly. After seeing you on the Messiaen site, I went to youtube and spent an afternoon watching videos from your Grahm Bond days to your Cream days to your post-Cream days. I followed some links and landed on your site, and since then have visited regularly. I recently brought you up to some friends in my classical music circle, and you might or might not be surprised to know that you have quite a few fans from that realm. I, for one, would love to see you rework that string quartet from your teen days, or do a fusion opera that draws upon the creative life you experienced while in the hospital. I do hope you're recovered from your recent illness, and most of all, happy, happy birthday!

My Dear Sir Jack, Upon reflection of the day of your Birth, it behooves me to tell you that I, for one, or maybe 1 and a Half, are glad that it took place, even though I'm sure you don't remember because, alas, you were SO young!! Most Sincerely, I harken back to the memory of our Dinner together, with my long-time Compatriot, Dave Stoltz, with whom I've played since Elementary School,(no, not that way, you scoundrel!)and Bruce Gary, who I would see frequently after that evening, especially at the NAMM Shows. I loved his energy, as I do yours, and you and I had played together that afternoon of the dinner, so the memories are most special to me. When one is a Focus for Change, as you have been, the responsibility of Loving comes along with it, and we have all shared that love since that time. I thank you for it, and special thanks goes to your Mum, who, most assuredly, has done exceptionally good work. Warm Regards, ROB THE DRUMMER robthedrummer.com

I made a visit into the city yesterday - not something I do very often these days, whereupon I was stopped in the street by an affable young guy who turns out to be a charity worker. The guy had a strong Scottish accent. I asked him - "You're from Scotland aren't you?" To which he replied "Yes I am". He then asked - "Who's your favorite Scotsman?" I thought for about half a second then said "Jack Bruce!" All I got then was a blank expression, then - "whose Jack Bruce?" I said "You know - Cream!" -"Huh?" "You know- Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker!!!" " Oh yes now I know - that's a bit before my time!" Probably just another one of those trivial encounters , but I was a little bit surprised that here was a Scotsman didn't know who Jack Bruce was. It probably had a lot to do with his age. Mine as well.

Anyways, you must return at once to the Seattle area with your fabulous new fury 3 piece and keep me in the stratosphere. Maybe a double-bill with John Fogerty!!!!!

Your music speaks in so many ways and for forty years, I have listened to your work and I am as enthralled by it now as I was when I first heard Fresh Cream as a 14 year old kid. I was fortunate enough to meet you at the Mitchell Theatre in Glasgow on the occasion of your 40th birthday (your mum introduced me to you.) That will remain a highlight of my life - I imagine a bit like you meeting with Bach whom I know you respected enormously. Keep on doing it Jack `cos I and millions like me need to hear what only JB can do.

Hey Jack, I'd just like to start off by saying that you are the greatest influence on my bass playing and that the lessons that I have learned from analyzing your playing have helped me so much throughout my musical career thus far. You need to come to Edmonton, Alberta and do a show! Seeing you live would fulfill one of my lifetime musical goals. There is one thing that I recently learned and that is how you recorded a song for a James Jamerson Tribute CD with Dr. Licks, I have been searching desperately all over to find this CD to figure out which song you did but I have been unsuccessful so far. If you respond to any of these guestbook messages could you tell me what song you did? Jamerson has influenced me greatly as well as I imagine he influenced you and many other great bassists, and knowing which song had the greatest impact on you would help me understand more fully both yours and Jamerson's styles. Thanks! - Carson MacDonald

Hey Jack and everybody. I am well brassed off that the Shrewsbury 'Memories Of Woodstock' festival has been cancelled. That would have been a great weekend. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikey that I could make either of the Scottish gigs or London during the week - and I so looked forward to seeing you on stage with Robin Trower. Last time I saw Trower, and met him - I asked him if he would ever do anything in collaboration with you again. I enjoyed 'B.L.T.' and absolutely adored 'Truce'. "You never know" he replied and a year or two later appears 'Seven Moons'!!! Brilliant. Can you guys not consider extending this BTH tour to take in more of the UK - rather than just either end of it? Some gigs in the Midlands and the North of England would be great. Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaase!!! Cheers

Shepherds Bush 05Aug2009 Sorry Jack, last night was worst sound engineering I have experienced in recent years. Was just a jumble mumble of over-loud hashmash. No definition esp. in the bass, voice bad too. Expect it would've helped somewhat if you had played your Thumbbass (known for its defined sound) - I was waiting with hopefull anticipation - but you didn't so we will never know. I have waited over 40 years to see you, my first bass hero and original influence (I am a bassist too). Oh well . . . Maybe next time

The set was great one of the best gigs I have been at for along time I must thank you all very much such an inspiring show. Greetings Jack! The sad occasion of today's passing of Les Paul -- a wonderful guy and world-class talent -- compelled me to somehow let you know how much comfort and inspiration your music has been to me. Hey, I could be gone tomorrow, and if there's one thing that I have learned from Les, it's to live life with both hands. Not meaning to make a pun, but he simply refused to give up and go away, no matter what afflictions life gave him. From his car crash which prompted him to design his own now legendary guitar so that his paralyzed arm would fit it, to the weekly gigs he performed for appreciative audiences here in New York City with fingers fused solid by arthritis, he was great to be around, just because he loved life, and music, and sharing the experience with people. That is indominable passion, and flint. I have had the privilege of seeing you perform several times through the years, and I must report to you that it was always inspirational, and encouraging. You have passion, my friend, as well as being a rare and exceptional talent. Your work with Pete Brown's poetry became so much greater than the sum of their parts...it is a form of life, a place. It is also an explanation, which other artists, if they ever do so, only achieve through much longer forms, like novels or films. You do it directly, not through a fictional character, but standing there, it comes right out of you, alive and complete, from within you. Composition is a serious art, and you add gifted theatrical performance, a rare accomplishment for any artist. Your work transports me to complete realms of real experience and meaning, through a handful of sentences, and notes. That is magic, and I truly thank you for it. Looking forward to your next shows here in the U.S., and everything you record with the great talents who know what a jewel you are, and appreciate being part of the magic which you bring...to us all. -Marko

Hi Jack, I had the great good pleasure of seeing you play with Cream, on May 7th, 1968, at the Cabell County Memorial Field House, in Huntington, West Virginia. That night "The Grass Roots" was your opening act and there couldn't have been more than few hundred of us there watching you guys play your hearts out to and for us. I also had the pleasure of seeing you few years later, with "West, Bruce & Laing", on that bands first US tour, when you opened for "Emerson, Lake and Palmer", in Athens Ohio, on April 20, 1972. I was a drummer all those years ago and I still am today, and in no small measure it is because of you and a world of improvisational playing into which you allowed me to imagine and re-imagine myself. Thank you, sir. Thank you!

Jack Bruce is the most revolutionary bass player ever.Since he is playing a bass guitar like electric guitar what more is to say...He is still today influentall on new bass player and piano players and harmonica as well as on guitar players. Otherwords multi instrumentalist`s :) I was wondering is it possible to see your show near this region again, will there be other shows soon? Thank you and keep doing what you do best because you are the best!!!

first i want to say Great site here. really enjoyed the lyrics section after gibrishing some of your lyrics for years..LOL we need you back Here Jack, saw you here back in 86 and 90. since the break of the internet into our lives i tried to find a song you played here in 86 which i;m not sure of it's name and i couldn't find anything about it, i suspect John maclaughlin has something to do with it it goes something like..: one with sun song one with moon.. one with the sea one with the breeze.. chorus: maybe baby you when ..... you're the one and one with you... probably mostly gibrish, but i'd love to know if i can get this one on cd..or at least know what's the name of this song... that will put 23 years of mystery to an end..

Hello, Jack. Don't know if you'll read this or not, but just wanted to say thank you for all the great music! Also, we happen to have a common friend..Mr. Larry Hartke. Larry has taken great care of me for about 15 year now. I used to play bass for Blues artist Debbie Davies for almost 9 years. Debbie played guitar for the late, great Albert Collins, and she was once also a member of Maggie Mayall & the Cadillacs (John Mayall's wife's band). I know John too, and I keep in touch with his bass player Hank from time-to-time. Anyway, I hope that someday we might meet up through our friend Larry at some point and perhaps chat a bit. I've always been a fan, and I want to thank you also for being a big influence on my playing as well. Hope all is well with you! My best, --AJ (^:~

Mr Bruce In 1967 me and 8 of my closest friends all of us from the streets of Boston, each bought 4 dollar ticket nosebleed section furthest row from the stage to see Cream at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. We were 16 years old and still in High School. The Band was miraculously late for the show thank you, God and, although you guys were scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM, you didn't arrive until 3 o'clock in the morning. Of course by then we were situated right in the front row!!! I guess that I was less than 20 feet from you as you guys began to tune your instruments up. Mr. Bruce I have never spoken to any of my idols before and, I suppose, that I have precious few of them anyway. I think that some day you will read this and I guess I want to be as eloquent and accurate as I can be when I say that you and the rest of the Band simply changed my life forever. I am not a rock and roll groupie or any other kind of ass kisser and actually, before that night anyway, my ability to appreciate music was much less than what I wanted it to be at that stage of my life. Thanks to you that was all about to change at 3 in the morning in an obscure New England town at a college that ordinarily would not allow me and my chums to even linger about. Then all of a sudden "1,2,3,4, You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever..." enter a wall of sound of major chords and the cracking of a snare drum that must have been the size of the Universe itself and little Jimmie McDevitt's entire philosophy of life and changed. Much for the better, Mr. Bruce. Of course I was sitting closer to you and your amplifiers than the others and I have never tired of telling this story over the years. "Hey Captain Jim tell this guy about that Cream concert that you snuck outa' the house to see back in the Stone Ages." Mr. Bruce thank you for that experience, seriously. This Internet is the best invention since the wheel isn't it? I am just a click away from reliving that night every day and actually having a chance to communicate something as important as this to you, well it is just unbelievable It must be a very holy and humbling experience to have this kind of effect on people, Mr. Bruce. You have handled it very well over the years. Saying a simple thank you seems so very insignificant right now, Mr. Bruce, but having seen and heard you speak I know that it is enough. How lovely to hear you're working on a symphony. You should get Lang Lang to create another You Tube orchestra to premiere it. Classical orchestras are being revitalized by such endeavors - the music director of our own Baltimore Symphony has led the group in everything from a Radiohead medley to a concert with alt classical group "Time for Three". Glad to hear you're part of the trend, though you no doubt presaged it long ago with your art songs such as "There is a Forest". Whatever the style of your new piece, I bet it will be infused with your intensely romantic spirit - can't wait, can't wait, can't wait to hear it!

I wish you a Happy Christmas and Happy 2010, Jack, and...thanks for your appearances with Robin and Gary. I pursue the live dvd of the Nijmegen, Holland concert and I admit that it is beyond my expectations. The setlist is impeccable. Just Another Day, She's Not The One...new rock masterpieces, Jack Bruce, seems like the 60s was back and a new rock trio appeared and released a new hit. Congratulations! Psychedelia and full-bodied bass playing are still working, 'really cooking' as north americans say. A suggestion: it would be interesting if you released a dvd of picturesque facts of your career, weird things, good things, your most memorable improvisations and songs, and so on...What do you think about it? My best wishes. Carlos Bill, bass player, after watching the Seven Moons Live in my dvd.

I remember Eric coming out with his Firebird 1 (I have one also)in his tuxedo and high top sneakers. You guys were the epitome of cool. Your voice has always radiated in my head as one of the greatest voices of our generation. I also had an opportunity to see you at Radio City Music Hall with Leslie and Corky. In 1985, I became friends with Leslie (I'm in the jewelry business, and we swapped jewelry for lessons), and we remained friends until a few years ago. Learned my vibrato and slide from him. Moody guy, we've since stopped talking. I think it's great that Malcom is becoming a part of the group, but, it's you that should be there. I understand your health has not been up to par, and it's a shame not to be able to hear you with them, because it was magical what you've done. I wish you a speedy recovery, as you need to be out there as you are so gifted and missed. Out in the Fields is one of my favorite songs of all time. I hope Malcom has a good time with Leslie and Corky. Corky is a good guy. I played with him and Leslie once, and it's truly amazing how well a gifted drummer can make your playing better. I hope you warned Malcom about Leslie's mood swings. That guy goes from being the nicest guy one minute, and the next.... I'm 55, and started playing bass when I was 12. You've always been an influence. I have an old Danelectro longhorn and a 66 eb3. Of course, I can't play like you, but a lot of people tell me my attack is similar, and I consider that a large complement. I hope Malcom has a great time, and I wish you good health.
